How Panhellenic is your family?

So here's my question for all of you lovely SigKaps:

Who else in your family is Greek? Did you follow in the legacy of your mother and grandmother? Did you break the mold when the rest of your family was an XYZ? Has no one who's come after you joined SK?

My mom's mom is a DZ, my mother is an ADPi, and my younger sister is a Tri Delta (but there was no SK on her campus so I don't mind:p )

How about the rest of you?

ETA: My Dad's youngest sister was the only one to go Greek in his family and was an AOPi.

I`m the first sorority girl, and the first Panhellenic.

In fact, I`m so first, no one in my family knows I even rushed or accepted yet.

^________________^;; I`m not exactly looking forwards to their reactions, but oh well. I want to set the mold for MY daughter(s).

Welcome to GC btw :D

If you want any thoughts on dealing with parents/family, etc. Let me know...

My mom, her sister, and dad were in locals in college (the went to a SMALL private Lutheran school) so I am the first NPC that I know of. My step-fathers dad was a Sig Ep and his brother is a TKE (actually from my school too!). I think that is the extent of it though.

Same here if you need help dealing with the parents.

My dad's first response was "So you have colors, signs and stuff right? Aren't you just joining a gang then?" Yes, he was joking.

ETA: Where is PSUSigKap and her super Sigma Kappa family????

PSUSigKap 10-11-2006 07:05 PM

My dad was a Phi Mu Delta at Penn State. That's pretty much it for greeks in my family...although my grandmother was president of her area Junior League. :)

ETA: I just went to the Phi Mu Delta website, and I was totally floored by how much my dad's badge resembles mine. I can't believe he never said anything about it!

I was [and am still] the first and only person in my entire family to go Greek. :)

SigmaKappaRoyal 10-12-2006 02:55 PM

i'm the only greek in my family (my family is pretty small tho). i don't know much about my dad's side however.. i would be surprised if any of them were greek. i would love any kids i have to someday go greek.

SigmaKappaccino 10-14-2006 05:40 PM

i have to add another into the "the one-and-only family member to be greek" pile.. in fact, even though my extended family is QUITE large, i'm even the first to graduate four years of college. my brother did, however, graduate from a tech school with an associates degree, and HE was the first member to actually ever graduate - but being a tech school there were no greek organizations of any kind.

SigKapCoug 10-15-2006 01:17 AM

I'm the only NPC Greek. My brother is in Alpha Phi Omega, and my sister is pledging a local at her school.
But thats all, I think.

melsigkap 10-16-2006 02:15 PM

I'm also the only NPC greek in my family :) My mom was a Lambda Sigma Alpha, which I assume was local at her school. I know my uncle was in a fraternity, but I can't remember which one...

My sister-in-law is an AXiD, but I don't know if that counts.

I am the first in my family, but that's reasonable considering we emigrated from the UK ten years ago :D It was tough trying to explain a. what greek life was and b. why I wanted to join it.

I have now imagined this conversation in a horrendous mix of British accents and stereotypes :p

As long as you didn't envision bad teeth. On that account you would be sorely disappointed in my family. We all have great teeth thanks to the UK National Healthcare System. See? :D

Drolefille 10-17-2006 09:11 AM

AH, well now I'm convinced :p
Nah, I don't imagine bad teeth on British people, but when I SEE really bad teeth my mind goes "BRITISH"
