Final Rush Numbers

Hey guys. Formal Rush is FINALLY here at Ole Miss. This year, Ole Miss has the largest Freshman class in school history. Great for the University, but also for rush. With 854 guys participating in formal recruitment this year, every fraternity is looking to pull in large numbers of great guys. This is my first year to experience rush from the perspective of an active member in a fraternity, and I was very involved and met alot of the guys personally. Pike is looking to get between 65 and 80 guys. HUGE numbers, I know, but I personally know at least 50 or so of these guys and they are quality guys. I will get back to you in about a week with our final number.

Back to the point of my post: What numbers did other Pike chapters post this year in rush?

Great Plan!

Good for you, Gamma Iota!
Florida State took 60 - now you go top us. Beat Ole Miss Phi Delt, Sigma Nu and Sigma Chi. Pound 'em!
Go Pikes.

That would definatle be nice. Being from the Mississippi Delta myself, and Phi Delt traditionally taking most of the Delta guys, I know that we rushed the Delta guys real hard this year, and are probably going to pull the majority of the Delta boys. Sigma Nu always pulls good numbers, but not as much so in quality (personal opinion). Last year we took alot of guys away from Sigma Chi during formal rush. We have a few guys who pledged EX but dropped before initiation and are going through rush again and planning on Pike. ATO is running a good rush this year using their incredible new house as leverage.

Round 1 starts in 14 hours and I can't wait.

Rush here at University of North Dakota was weak due to the fact the University pushed rush back 4 weeks and it was on the same week as midterms. Overall I am pleased however because there are 8 guys in my pledge class including me and they are all quality. I might add that we are still the 2nd largest fraternity out of 13 fraternities on UND campus.

Dear Proud Pledge,

Welcome to Pi Kappa Alpha and congratulations on your decision. I also applaud you for reaching out via this forum to meet other brothers and learn about the opportunities available through Pi Kappa Alpha.

Let me recommend that one of the first things that you do is search for posts by Firehouse on the topic of recruitment. I say this because we need to get you on "Pike thinking" about rush!

Universities and IFCs may set rush dates, but the most successful chapters don't care about those dates. They care about EVERY day. Don't let the "official rush week" stop you from recruiting before and after. Either change the rules, withdraw from recognition or strategize on how you can recruit - even if you aren't bidding - throughout the year.

Comparing yourself to other chapters on your campus is never good enough. Compare yourselves to the top Pike chapters. To have the manpower to compete, you need to initiate at least 25 men per year. This will give you a fighting chance to stay at or above our average chapter size of 65 or so.

Set your goals higher and don't be stopped by perceived barriers!

GREAT Rush

We got 78 guys through formal rush at Ole Miss! Second largest pledge class on campus (behind Sig Ep, but they gave out 500+ bids and got 96). This is not only one of the largest, but also one of the best pledge classes here in a long time.

That's fantastic!!
Congratulations. I'm so proud of Gamma Iota. Please update the website and give us a photo.
What's the heriarchy now? The top circle used to be Pike, Phi Delt, Sigma Nu, Sigma Chi and SAE. You said Sigma chi had taken a bad class last year, and Im told that SAE is not top tier anymore. What happened to ATO and KA?
Give us the news! What a great achievement.

Website

We are currently completely re-doing our website. It should be up in about two weeks or so. It is going to be so easy to use and navigate. There will be great pictures of the new pledge class and some of our Homecoming float (4th year in a row to win).

As for the other frats on campus, I will find the official numbers and post, but I know we were the largest of the larger frats (Pike, ATO, Sigma Nu, Sigma Chi, KA, SAE).

Also on another note, me and some brothers were talking about buying an old fire engine and restoring it cosmetically only and just keeping it in the back yard. Does anyone know of a good place in or near Mississippi that sells old vehicles such as Fire Engines?

I Just want to say bullshit, bullshit, bullshit to that phony ass claim that sig ep gave out 500 bids, we gave out just over 150 and got 2/3 of the ones we wanted back, including KA, EN, Sigma Chi, and Phi Delt legacy's that we stole, so dont hate on another top tier organization on campus

With respect, why are you on our board?
And since you have decided to bring it up, I have followed Ole Miss fraternities for a long time and I have never heard Sig Ep refered to as a player of any kind on that campus. It's true that almost all of the fraternities at Ole Miss are good, and any fraternity pledging in the 80s or 90s - even a colony - has to have some exciting dynamic in order to attract those numbers. But it's also true that there is an established heriarchy at Ole Miss, among the fraternities as well as the sororities. Pike has traditionally been a member of that top tier. I mean no disrespect when I say that I was not even aware that Sig Ep had a chapter at Ole Miss.
I do wish you well, and congratulations on an outstanding rush.
