I did not PLEDGE!
What are your thoughts/comments on this pledge story (true story)?
Back in 2020  , 17 young ladies crossed the burning sands into XYZ land. For some reason unknown;) , they are only known around campus as the 16... Before becoming a XYZ the 17th was well known, outspoken, and very active around campus. Afterwards, she became the total opposite. She never came out, hardly spoke to anyone, and was an "unknown entity" thereafter. Now, to my knowledge, during MIP she was treated like everyone else. This is to say, that I don't think she had bad experiences during this time, so I can't say that she resents the organization or its members for anything that may have happened. Yet, it was a well known fact in the greek community (and nongreek for that matter) that she was...well, different from the other 16 girls. She was never looked at the same, and she never acted the same! My question is NOT "Do you think Pledging is good or bad?" I just want your thoughts on how this well known, outspoken, active person let something like this change her entire personality? |

^^^Ditto.

Maybe some people are unstable to begin with.

Ok, the facts of this hypothetical are a bit distorted and convoluted. I am not understanding the point....

Pledging doesn't occur in a bubble. She could have had some traumatic event occur that she did not share with her new sisters.

I don't know what the hell you're talking about but...
if this scenario isn't about you and yours, why do you care? If this scenario IS about you and yours, handle it off the board and don't ask for our opinions on this silliness. |

I don't get what you are saying either, but I will take a stab at it. From my personal experience of observing people join a GLO, I've seen two extremes, and a whole lot in between. I've seen people go from being kinda immature when they first join their GLO, to becoming organized and productive people because their GLO gave them leadership opportunities where they could grow and develop into a well-rounded adult. I've also seen individuals use a GLO's hype reputation as an excuse to act stupid. It basically boils down to what was in that individual's heart when they joined. Not unless that person will tell you, you will never really know. |

PLEDGING CAN BE A LIFE ALTERING EXPERIENCE IF YOU ARE NOT STRONG FROM THE GET GO OR IF YOU ARE SEEKING SOMETHING THAT IS ALREADY WITHIN YOU. IT CAN CHANGE A PERSON SOMETIMES FOR THE WORSE, IF THEIR ENCOUNTERS DIFFER FROM ONES VIEWS.

You know what, I erased this yesterday, but I'm saying it today:
She changed because she was weak from the start for no reason. If she lets others change who she is she needs to look deeper into herself. Ufck the haters, keep your head up and keep it moving. |
