How come I almost never see black women at bars?

I notice when I go to bars (particularly those geared towards young and straight people), I notice that I almost never see other black women. It's really weird. I see other minority women, such as Asian women. I also see black men. Maybe it's only a STL thing. I probably won't get a serious answer, but oh well...

I'm dying to make a totally inappropriate joke right now but it would not be taken very well.

I can't speak for everyone, but I usually prefer to go to clubs b/c I like to dance. Most bars that I go to don't have very much dancing, so I typically only go there with co-workers or other friends that prefer a specific bar/pub. If I'm not going to a club, then I prefer someplace a little more upscale than most of the bars my co-workers visit. Probably someplace where I can relax, listen to music, get a few drinks, and feel comfortable.

Because Black women aren't allowed to go to bars, per Black woman memo 18.5.3, section 3, paragraph 1. ;)

LMAO!!! I don't tend to frequent bars. Marie and I sound on the same wavelength -- I occasionally go to a club and those are clubs with a high percentage of Black patrons.

I know that some places are called 'Bar' and some places are called 'Lounge', but what would you say the difference was? I'm not being a smart ass. I'm generally curious. The thread got me wondering...

It's hard to explain...the lounges in my area are kind of restaurantish. There's some dancing, but not as much as you see at clubs. There's drinking, but you won't see people downing shots or drinking a lot of beer like you would see at bars. Majority of the people I see drink "girlie" drinks.

I don't really see that many black women at clubs either, unless it's a gay/lesbian one.

I do see black women at lounges, but are still outnumbered by white women and black men.

Maybe it is the clubs/lounges/bars that you choose to patronize. You don't live in Boise, Idaho for goodness sakes.

When I think of bar, I picture a bar with stools and tables, possibly pool tables and darts with a small dance floor that is not used/seldom used.

Clubs are similar to bars but with a bigger dance floor, less tables and people are dancing the whole night once the DJ plays the right song to set the night off.

Lounges have a bar but are filled with comfortable chairs and couches, also has a dance floor but the atmosphere is more mellow and music might not be played as loudly so that it fosters conversation.

That's my perspective & experience in general terms. I am more likely to be at a lounge and club.
