Getting everyone involved with PR
Hey GCers:
We all know that good PR is more than just the chairperson's effort- everyone has to be involved. Since PR is an important part of all our chapter operations, let's brainstorm ways that each individual member can help support on campus public relations. We do the obvious like wear letters and incorporate events that get the greek community involved, but I'm sure there are more strategies than that? -CaliSA |
The best PR is to be who you say you are.
If your organization says they hold high standards in academics...don't be skipping classes, and failing exams. Hold the standards high. If your organization says it devotes a lot of time to community service....make sure everyone knows. Ask your college newspaper to write an article about your recent community service events. Don't reinforce the negative stereo-types. You represent your organization. When you are in a national organization you are not representing just your chapter, but your entire national organization. Yes all chapters are different, but the rest of the world doesn't know the difference- they assume that all chapters are like that. The way you represent your organizaion, good or bad, is the way people who don't know you or your organization will think of it. You are not just a college student...you are a member of XYZ organization at Your U. The best PR....is Positive PR! |
I agree that the best PR is positive PR.
May I also recommend that maybe try to think outside the box. You might have a great chapter that participates in the philanthopy events of every other GLO on campus, but that doesn't always help the PR outside of greek row. Maybe have a social event with a non-GLO (for example my sorority had a social with the hockey club). Or do something to get the faculty on your side. Invite the faculty and thier children to a halloween party or haunted house or have a greek trick or treat where the various houses hand out candy to the local kids. My final suggestion is to make sure that members are involved not only in your organization, but others on campus. And they can then wear thier letters, or lavalier, or even badge to those organizations events as well. |
Good PR is done in many ways.
Being envolved in: Campus activities. Charitable events. Community events. If have a house, keep clean at least on the outside and the yard nice. Dress well, not like a slob. Wear letters or Badges in a presentable way. Do not act like dim wits when on campus or in public. |
