new member retreats?
I guess this goes in this section...
Anyways, explain them please. Are they usually weekend long things? I know it's to get to know the other pledges better and become closer, but other than that I don't know much about them. Do you go camping or something? I'm too eager to wait and find out in a few days :) |
Our new member retreat is usually like 2 weeks before initiation. It's an entire weekend. The new members and officers go to the retreat site on Friday afternoon and the rest of the chapter comes down on Saturday morning.
It is basically a time for the class to really hang out and reflect on the past few weeks. They play games, and have family dinner with their sorority family. We even play "Sigma jeopardy". The activities really depend on what your chapter has planned for you. The location varies depending on the sorority, the chapter's budget, and other factors (like what places are available in your area). Some chapter's have it at their house. Last year, ours was at Punderson Lake Resort in Newberry, OH. |
Me and 15 brothers and rushes got into a van last weekend for a campout. We ended up staying at one of the brothers folks house though since it was raining really hard.
We've done other things like gone to cabins in the snow, gone Ice fishing (Which my ass will never do) and gone to a private island one of my frat brothers families owns. Once our new rushes are inducted as pledges me and my older brother were thinking of taking some of them down to Madison for a weekend of drunken bar hopping.:) |
Retreats can be an overnight or a day-long event where you spend time learning about the sorority's history and policies, play getting to know you games with your fellow new members, learn sorority songs and traditions and bond with your sisters. It will be a lot of fun with lots of tasty snacks and probably some crafts and gifts-- sometimes in addition to these things there will be a trip to go skating, canoeing, beach, etc. Have fun!
