The Simpsons to Continue Indefinitely

HOLLYWOOD - The Simpsons creator Matt Groening insists his popular show will keep going for as long as it continues to entertain people.
The animated show, which is kicking off its 18th season this month, has just scooped its 23rd Emmy and is coming to the big screen with a summer 2007 movie.

I think they will stop at season 20 or 25.

Is it true that only "Meet the Press" has been on TV longer? What about 60 minutes, etc? Or is it only the longest running comedy show?

Used to watch the Simpson's when I was in middle/high school...can't believe they are still around...

The longest running TV show is "As the World Turns". It's been on TV since 1956. If you count its radio years pre-TV, then it's even longer.

SNL has been around for 20-something years, but if you ask me, it's time for NBC to can it. The caliber of it has gone down immensely.

I thought it was either Meet The Press or Guiding Light. I think ATWT is third on the list.

According the imdb.com:

Meet the Press (1947)
Guiding Light (1952)
As the World Turns (1956)

Helen Wagner, the actress playing Nancy Hughes McCloskey on As the World Turns, has the distinction of being the longest-running character played by one actor, on television, ever. That's according to the Guiness Book of Records.

It was neat seeing 50 years worth of Nancy on a special tribute episode they had a few months ago.

It's been on the air 31 years. First aired in 1975. But I agree, the last 10-12 years just haven't been as good as the first 15-20, or so.

That's because it's gotten too corporatized and turned into the things it used to make fun of. About the only controversial thing on it is the TV Funhouse cartoons.

Think about it - can you imagine the Bay City Rollers (the 1975 equivalent of N'Sync) showing up on the old show? Let alone being sponsored by Budweiser?

Although I think when you look at the old ones, it's not as rip roaring funny as everyone likes to make out it was. It was more that it was different than anything else.

And there was much rejoicing. I get pissed when the Simpsons get preempted by anything.

Is Will Ferrell even on SNL anymore? Anyway, yeah it's pretty weak anymore. There'll never be another golden era where we had Farley, Sandler and Hartman. These guys they have on there now are shanes. WTF.

No, he left in I think 2003. It's pretty bad when the main reason you watch it is for Andy Samberg eye candy.

3 cheers for the Simpsons!

Hip Hip Hurray!!!
