Just a thought
A United States Marine was attending some college courses between
assignments. He had completed missions in Iraq and Afghanistan . One of the courses had a professor who was an avid atheist and a member of the ACLU. One day the professor shocked the class when he came in. He looked to the ceiling and flatly stated, "God, if you are real, then I want you to knock me off this platform. I'll give you exactly 15 minutes." The lecture room fell silent. You could hear a pin drop. Ten minutes went by and the professor proclaimed, "Here I am God. I'm still waiting." It got down to the last couple of minutes when the Marine got out of his chair, went up to the professor, and cold-cocked him knocking him off the platform The professor was out cold. The Marine went back to his seat and sat there, silently. The other students were shocked and stunned and sat there looking on in silence. The professor eventually came to, noticeably shaken, looked at the Marine and asked, "What the hell is the matter with you? Why did you do that?" The Marine calmly replied, "God was too busy today protecting America's troops who are protecting your right to say stupid shit and act like an asshole. ... ...........So, He sent me." :D |
So the Marine violated the rights of an American that he took an oath to protect? RIGHT! :rolls eyes:
|
Cold cocked? WTF was going on in that classroom?
|
Uh huh. Anyway, what does the ACLU have to do with anything in the story?
|
Uhhhh, so was this Marine dude arrested by one of your cop buddies, or is crime okay if committed by someone in the military, or is this another one of those stupid messages people forward by email even though NOBODY LIKES TO RECEIVE THEM?
|
If this story actually happened and is not just more of Earp's email glurge repostings, I am still not sure what is newsworthy or political about it.
ETA, it is too much to hope that Tom learns to use Snopes, I guess. |

This is nothing more than a rendition of the story that you can find on snopes involving the atheist professor and a piece of chalk breaking or something like that. You can find it on snopes.com
|
Nah... yet another one of those email stories that has been floating around for a while... I've heard it nearly a dozen times myself - though adding in the whole ACLU thing is a new twist...

Wouldn't that have been kinda cool? :p |
Hmmm, seems to me that Tom Earp titled his post "Just a thought" with a smiling face logo.
Sounds to me like an amusing story not intended to recount a factual happening or serious comment. This seems more like one of those "scenes we'd love to see" that used to appear in MAD Magazine. In my experience, Marines don't go around slugging professors, no matter how much they might want to, and Cops (like Tom used to be) do arrest people who cold cock assholes, whether or not they happen to want to. What I find disappointing is the reaction to a STORY which is so obviously intended to be amusing. Those of us who have worn the "green suit" and have had to listen to self-important jerks pontificating from the teacher's platform do find this an amusing story, and we see it as just that - an amusing story. If you do not find it amusing, so be it, but please spare me the puritanical devotion to PC and the literal reading of something simply meant to be a lighthearted tale to share. In the context in which it was posted it is a "scene I'd love to see". |
Certainly, had it been posted in Chit Chat most of us would have rolled our eyes at Tom starting yet another thread devoted to reposting email forwards.
In News and Events, one assumes a topic has something to do with News or Events. Unless "Contents of Tom Earp's Inbox" was a CNN headline I missed, this does not. |
