I'm following this right now. It's pretty crazy  . There are saying there is more than one shooter. One has already been shot by the cops.

I hope the students are ok.

That's so sad...it will be interesting to hear what lead to it as the story unfolds

Last report was one gunman shot and killed, 20 students injured/wounded, and one 20 year-old woman died of wounds in the hospital... some are already comparing it to the Ecole Polytechnique shootings.

It should be interesting to see if this renews the debate on gun control - as from all accounts the shooter had an automatic or semi-automatic weapon.

My good friend's cousin was one of the last groups evacuated. She's ok, but they didn't hear from her until the end. Some of the people I work with and the kids know people who go there. It was really scary.

This will be the third time that Montreal knows violence in an academic institution. There was also an incident at Concordia University.

A research associate professor, Dr. Fabrikant, came to Concordia from the Soviet Union. In 1990 he got a tenure-track post as associate professor, but a faculty committee voted not to renew his appointment after June 1992. He basically went bat-$hit crazy, taking 2 students hostage, and killing 3 or 4 faculty members. He's serving time "in the can" right now.

An update

(AP) -- Investigators tried to determine Thursday why a young man in a black trench coat and a mohawk haircut opened fire in a Montreal college, killing one woman and left 19 other people wounded.

Six victims remained in critical condition, including two in extremely critical condition.

The attacker's name is Kimveer Gill, 25, of Laval, near Montreal, a police official said, speaking on condition of anonymity because police were not ready to announce it publicly yet.

The victims probably brought it on themselves.

New poll says most Canadians blame U.S. for 9/11 attacks

A majority of Canadians believe U.S. foreign policy was one of the root causes that led to the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, and Quebecers are quicker to criticize the U.S. administration for its international actions than other Canadians, a recent poll suggests.
Those conclusions are found in a newly released poll conducted by Léger Marketing for the Association for Canadian Studies.
The poll suggests that 77 per cent of Quebecers polled primarily blame American foreign policy for the Sept. 11 attacks. The results suggest 57 per cent in Ontario hold a similar view.

Does Michael Moore know about this?

Reports today say that the shooter was obscessed (that spelling doesn't look right, but I don't have time to look it up) with Colubine.

There was a Columbine "expert" in our facility today doing a live interview on for some Canadian broadcaster.

Yeah... on his blog he listed one of his favourite computer games was some sort of first-person shooter/RPG of Columbine. The blog is obviously down now and removed from vampirefreaks.com, but hopefully someone grabbed copies before... 'cause there was some interesting and freaky stuff on the site.

Even with all he posted (including 2 hours before his rampage) the police are still baffled as to a motive or even reason for selecting Dawson College as a target...

And your point is?

Lots of people have guns. Lots of people don't go off on shooting rampages. This was just a messed up person.

macallan25 09-15-2006 12:12 AM

.....but i'm sure......probobly according to some people on here.....that it was the students/teachers/school's fault.
