Help With Open Recruitment Ideas

Hi Ladies, I'm a memeber of the Rho Delta Chapter at Central Michigan University. I was recently (as in 2 days ago) asked to plan COB's for after our formal recruitment, because I'm a little older in the chapter. Well, the chapter consultant is coming in a week and a half, and is planning on meeting with me about COBs. I'm having a hard time coming up with something fun, not only for PNMs, but for our actives, so that it will be a good time for everyone. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!

Love in our bond,

Sarah

Hope you don't mind the crash but some COB things we've done are:

Dinner before chapter (not in a house, on campus) - easy to get lots of sisters to go
Movie night at a sisters apartment
Cook out with a fraternity (that we were encouraged to 'bring a friend' to)
Visited "Crown Candy Kitchen" a local place that made old fasioned malts and homemade candy.

We made COB events any time there were a bunch of sisters and a potential new member. If a bunch of sisters were going somewhere, you were encouraged to invite people along. They didn't have to know that it was a COB event.

A couple of years ago, we had to COB hard, and had many events.
These included:
Phiesta (a party thrown for the Phis in the house--we encouraged them to bring friends)
Rush like a guy (our school has strict policies for women's recruitment including no food, whereas the men have food and games--we had buffalo wings and put-put)

Another chapter on our campus is in the process of COR on our campus currently, and they are hosting the following events (they accidently sent invites to some members of our chapter):
Cookie-decorating
Jack-o-Lantern carving
Open House
A dance

If you have just had formal recruitment, and have new Phis, these events are great fun for them. They help the girls grow closer, while being able to invite non-Greek friends. Make sure your Phis know how much they mean to you, and that they are a great addition to your chapter, and you are only trying to help them have more women in the chapter. What I'm saying, is don't take the focus off of them, because they may not understand why they are not "good enough." (I hope that comes across the right way).

Best of luck!!!

The Zeta Sigma chapter is really proud of the COB events we have planned this semester. :)

First of all, we're planning a movie night, and we also plan trips to the Mall of America (which has an amusement park - yay!), but, we're also stepping out of the box a little and having one where a black belt comes in and teaches us some self-defense moves and at the end we'll get our "pink belt", as well as golf lessons/business etiquette night, a Cookie Factory tour, etc.

Most of our COB is informal, though - asking new girls to lunch with us, going to campus events (Dave Coulier from Full House is going to be on our campus tonight!), or just hanging out at our apartments.

*Another Crash*

One that I really enjoyed was having a Pajama Party in the freshman gordorm. We advertised, and then brought blankets, pillows, stuffed animals, etc and had the event in a conference room in the basement of the dorm.

Invite the girls over to watch any show that's popular (it helps if you have a big tv), and do a death by chocolate.

We're going through informal recruitment for the first time.
We had an ice cream sunday night
a cook out
we're going putt putt golfing tonight!
then having a nice candle light dinner on sunday

That's a great idea. Good TV show and conversation (or possibly debate depending on the show. LOL) and chocolate. You can't go wrong with chocolate!

Since you originally posted on 9/12 how did your COR events go? (If any have happened?)

COR

Well, our events went fairly well, we ended up having 6 girls come to our house, and we didn't have to recruit too hard since we ended up with quota through formal recruitment! All in all, it went well! :)
