Happy Awana

I was driving and drove past a Baptist church that said AWANA started Sept. 10. I have no idea what that is, but if you're a Baptist, I hope you have a great one. Or even if you're not Baptist and celebrate it, I hope you have a safe and happy or dignified and enlightening (whichever is more apropo) Awana.

Awana Hold Your Hand

Oh yeah, IŽll tell you something
I think you'll understand
When I say that something
Awana hold your hand
Awana hold your hand
Awana hold your hand

Oh, please, say to me
You'll let me be your man
and please, say to me

You'll let me hold your hand
Now let me hold your hand
Awana hold your hand

OMG, I ALWAYS sing that song in my head when I hear AWANA, which is not good, because most of the time it's when I'm counseling a preteen.

Thanks! (although this post made me giggle too). AWANA is basically a church club that teaches kids about Jesus. It was actually quite fun (I least I remember it was). Shoot, I'm sure today its ten times better that it was in the 80s.

Muahahaha, it's not a holiday. It's a program! It lasts throughout the schoolyear.

<----- not Baptist, but attended a Baptist school for four years. The worst four years of my life, might I add.

Makes me think of Camp Onawana

AWANA, like Opi & Honeykiss said, is a great Christian children & teens group. When I was in it (age 3-8th grade! every Friday night during the schoolyear) we had games, BIBLE stories, songs & recited memorized BIBLE verses. Kids earn different patches for attendance at AWANA, attendance at any church & completion of the verses. It's worth a visit to the website for more info if you are interested. I think any church that believes in the principals AWANA teaches can start a group so it's not just Baptist. My years as a kid in our Baptist church with AWANA were great!
