Let's Talk About Bid Matching.

PenguinTrax, this might be right up your alley!

I am at work, so I don't have my Green Book w/ me, but that's besides the point, b/c I can't find it at home, either. :)

What are the rules regarding bid matching and chapter advisors? Are they supposed to be there? What if they want to be there but the Greek Advisor refuses?

Drolefille 09-11-2006 12:57 PM

Without the Green Book either, but I believe at our campus the VPMembership and her advisor were both there for each chapter. I do NOT know if this is in the rules or just a campus agreement. But it does happen.

whoa there!! it is ONLY advisors/alums and the panhellenic/greek life advisor who bid match. collegiates DO NOT attend!!

tunatartare 09-11-2006 01:12 PM

At my school it was the recruitment counselors, VP of recruitment, greek advisors, and chapter advisors.

FSUZeta 09-11-2006 01:24 PM

the npc greenbook stipulates that only alumnae and the greek life or panhellenic advisor/administrator attend bid matching.

My memory might be faulty, but I'm pretty sure our rush VP did. The advisor was not always available. That includes other groups on campus too.

you all just HAD to make me go get my green book. to quote:

"undergraduate members never participate in the bid-matching process." pg 89, bid-matching, item 4

and

"each chapter is entitled to and expected to have at least one alumna representative to handle her own fraternity's bid list." pg 90, bid matching, item 6

let me clarify that.

I don't know if the girls in the chapter did the actual bid matching (i.e. holding the bid cards in their hands and matching them to the sororities' bid lists) or just picked up the list. Like I said, this was a small school and a long time ago.

Does this change if the bid matching is being done by a computer?

Also, what if the Greek Advisor REFUSES to allow anyone there during the bid matching?

Drolefille 09-11-2006 01:47 PM

I could be wrong, I was never VPM, but I was under the impression that they attended. There was a representative from each sorority there, regardless.

Is it anyone period, or is it because some of the advisors aren't members of the groups they advise? I know that's a goofy question but I thought she might be reading the Green Book to say non-alums can't participate - which if she is going by the passage FSUZeta quoted below, is pretty much what it sounds like.

FSUZeta 09-11-2006 02:06 PM

okay.....found the page on computer bid matching. here is what i have:

"5. it is essential that chapter computer bid lists be verified for accuracy by each alumna representative."

that is the only mention on that page of alumnae at all.

if you are concerned and no one else on greekchat can clarify, call your npc representive or the regional rep. for the npc-even if she is not amember of your sorority, she will assist anyway she can.

My Panhellenic only allows the Panhellenic Advisor and the individual chapter advisors to be present.
