Caught On Tape: TV Reporter Attacked

(CBS 42) LA JOLLA, Calif. Two people attacked an investigative reporter for a San Diego television station -- and it was all caught on tape.

XETV reporter John Mattes was working on a story about stolen identities being used to purchase real estate. He said two of the subjects of the story, Sam Suleiman and his wife Rosa, had been making threats for weeks.....

Pretty dumb of the attackers to do. It's not like it was going to be caught on tape or anything.

The reporter was interviewed by Matt Lauer on the Today Show this morning.

ML: John, I know you and I don't know each other but I'm assuming you looked better than you do this morning.

What's scary is that they still haven't nailed this couple for fraud and that they're out on bail for this assault. Apparently lots of people are fearing for their lives.

Good thing the wife found the paperweight instead and not the gun...and it's a miracle the bystander didn't get clocked himself!

I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often. The couple was clearly in the wrong, although the reporter did taunt the already enraged woman, at one point pointing at her and saying "have a nice day" while standing (presumably) on their property.

did anyone ever say who the man was that pulled the husband off the reporter? it clearly wasn't the cameraman who was still shooting.

The man who pulled the husband off the reporter was one of the scam victims. He was being interviewed by the reporter (I want to say it was a follow-up to the story) before the husband came home. What I don't get is why the interview was being conducted on the couple's property. :confused:
