In any case, Berkeley (while prestigious) is in a bit of a freaky neighborhood. I feel a lil' nervous when I was there, walking from the BART to the campus. |

ETA The property value is really high around the campus so the folks that OWN property are fine, its the the vagrants and such that are the problem. They hang out and dont go anywhere. |

*shocked*
This is really a shame. My heart goes out.
Have the detectives found out anything more on this case? |

The thought of a shooting anywhere near a sorority house is scary to me. Does anyone know if Berkeley has police patrolling Sorority Row at night? We always had an on-duty officer in our parking lot after dark; it went a long way toward making us feel better about walking to our cars.

"Police are looking into reports that a man confronted Drummond outside Blakes [half mile away from the AOII house] brandishing a handgun and then shot him in the torso after a struggle. Drummond apparently managed to flee and either traveled to the sorority by foot or was dropped off there by a friend who may have panicked. Police said the sorority may have been chosen because it was well lit at 2:30 a.m." Shooting victim seen near club before he sought help at sorority |

I guess I've never really been exposed to that. I went to school in Gainesville, so apart from the occasional serial killer, it's safe as houses.

Well, not every college town is as sleepy as Gainesville. A lot of colleges are in bona fide cities, and if they're older, are in older central parts of the city.
Thieves are attracted to college areas, in part because the kids are usually careless with their money and possessions. |
