NFL Hazing

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/wire?...nfl&id=2556582

On Sportscenter this week they had a clip of some rookie hazing at the Panthers camp. The comment that followed was 'That looks more like something from the Beta house' or something to that effect.

Can anybody say not fair?

You should see the isht that goes down at the Eagles' camp. :(

Is the NFL exempt from any hazing laws? If you take the same situation replace the NFL players with greeks and show a tape to the nation, nobody will have the same reaction.

Okay, they were wrapped to the goal post with toilet paper...I don't think anyone can honestly say that they were in any type of danger nor will any of them develop a complex because of this. They were merely having fun.

End of discussion.

I agree. I don't see this as being much different from what some fraternities do to their brothers who lavalier their girlfriends.

You're missing the point. What happened to the player isn't what this thread about, SDBeta is mad (i think) b/c they said "this looks like something from Beta house"

I agree, totatly not fair.

What I am referencing is the fact that associating any fraternity with the word hazing will make everyone go up in arms, while NFL athletes have their hazing played out to the entire country.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Before the players raced home in their expensive cars -- some already lined up on the edge of the parking lot for a quick getaway -- the rookies got a taste of traditional NFL hazing. Veteran receivers Steve Smith and Keyshawn Johnson helped to tape rookie receivers Daniel Smith, Lynzell Jackson, Jovon Bouknight, Taye Biddle and Justin McCullum to one goal post. They were then doused with water and sunscreen.
"They kind of snuck up on us. I thought we were clear and free to break camp -- nope," McCullum said.
While that was happening, defensive linemen Devan Long and Stanley McClover were being taped to another goal post, and James Anderson was strapped to a chair.
Veteran Chris Draft showed Anderson no mercy, giving him a Gatorade bath.
"I'm not exactly a hazing guy. I'm a supervisor hazer," Draft said. "Our guy James Anderson asked for more tape, like a good rookie should. We used regular tape, two-inch, stretch tape and some good pre-wrap. He also asked for some Gatorade, because he felt a little dehydrated. Now he smells like strawberries."

This is ridiculous, who cares. These are adults. LIKE THE ONES IN MY FRATERNITY. Holy crap, when is it politically correct to stop coddling people and let them make their own decisions?

I just about, kind of agree with what you wrote BUT for: "LIKE THE ONES IN MY FRATERNITY {Chapter House}"

shinerbock 08-25-2006 05:43 PM

College students are adults.

I think the point that sdbeta is trying to make is that if this was a fraternity doing this and taping it, the news and talk heads would be screaming "Hazing!" and the chapter's charter would be on the line. The public holds fraternities to a different standard that other groups, fairly or not. I didn't see his post as "these poor, football players"; but, as "How unfair that we get knocked down if we do this while other groups get laughed about." Si or no, sdbeta?
