Survivor Cook Islands

.

Was just about to post this... I don't watch Survivor, but I think it's kinda weird that they're doing this. They will have four tribes (African American, Asian American, Hispanic, and White).

"I think at first glance, when you just hear the idea, it could sound like a stunt. Especially with the way reality has gone, it wouldn't be unusual. But that's not what we're doing here. The idea for this actually came from the criticism that 'Survivor' was not ethnically diverse enough. Because, for whatever reason, we've always had a low number of minority applicants apply to the show. So we set out and said, 'Let's turn this criticism into creative for the show. I think it fits in perfectly with what 'Survivor' does — it is a social experiment. And this is adding another layer to that experiment, which is taking the show to a completely different level."

While the idea may have come from criticism, that doesn't mean 'Survivor' isn't pulling a stunt. But, I understand why they won't call a spade a spade.

This sounds like it has potential for nothing but disaster.

The division of the tribes will be quite interesting to see how that plays out.

But why are 13 of the 20 from California?

Many entertainers hang around California. I think there's always a good number of entertainers on survivor, because they are "daycrawlers" and bartend/wait to pay the bills. Restaurants usually have flexible schedules. A restaurant usually have less problems with workers disappearing over a month than office jobs.

Hmmmm. Haven't decided if I'll watch this season or not. We shall see.

tld221 08-23-2006 06:42 PM

i feel like this will go the same way as "black.white" people will tune in for the episode and taper off from there.

just seems like the lastest way for races to one-up each other.
and true, lots of these people are from CA/NY. next thing you know, its an east coast/west coast thing.

sdbeta1 08-23-2006 06:51 PM

isn't it because california is the only place where all of these races reside in abundance?

Could be.

But nevertheless....

Smart marketing move. I've never watched the show but this has actually made me curious just to watch and see what happens.

GM has pulled their ads from survivor

How are they going to measure this experiment? I think this so-called social experiement will show that racism is alive and well in America.

I don't see what the big deal is. Survivor has separated the genders and nobody yelled sexism. It's just smart marketing to generate more buzz.

My prediction: the merge is going to end up in a multi-race tribe anyway.
