MTV LOOKING FOR SPRING RUSHEES
I was searching through the MTV site today and I came across their casting call page. The request is posted as follows:
**About to embark on an experience that you hope will change your life? Coping with a dramatic turn? MTV News + Docs is developing a new series chronicling the diverse transformative experiences of young people - from newlyweds to police rookies to recovering addicts, we are following your story as it happens! We are still looking for a first-time sex worker, a sorority or fraternity pledge, and a sex change patient. Are you about to take a job in the sex industry for the first time? Are you in a fraternity or sorority that would be willing to let MTV follow a pledge through spring rush? Are you starting hormone treatment in order to transition? If you are willing to let MTV follow you through your journey, please email your story to mtv.firstyear@mtvstaff.com . http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/confused.gif I thought it was interesting...but I'm kind of wary as to how the media will portray the Greeks (since we all know the media loves us so much). ------------------ *I'm an Alpha Gam...Yes I am, Yes I am!* |
my sorority's pledge program really wouldn't make for very compelling television... since it consists of girls sitting around a room learning about out history and whatnot.
think about it... what else could they show except for instances of hazing? that would be a lot more watchable than what actually happens in most sororities. |
I know what you mean...AGD goes through fraternity education also...not that it's boring, but the dramatic content isn't really there, and I know that a lot of sororities (womens fraternities if you like) go through frat ed also.
I have a feeling they're going to steer clear of using a sorority. Fraternities have a reputation for having dramatic quantity--and we all know that MTV likes that kind of stuff. |
I have a feeling that the majority of national headquarters won't be allowing their chapters to have MTV follow a pledge around. I'm not sure if they were also including the whole recruitment process as well, but I know that Panhellenic wouldn't allow that! Should be interesting to watch and laugh at!
GO GREEK! |
Aren't like most of the VJ's on there greek? I know I've seen their names pop up all over as being XYZ or whatever. Surely they know that no national group will go for this since they're obviously going to just be looking for drama and all that. Its not like they'll be coming into meetings or initiations and stuff.

Jane mag had an article last year where a girl went throught UCLA's rush undercover, but I don't know if their Panhel knew about it or preapproved it. |

From an NPHC perspective, no aspect of the MIP process is for public consumption.

And we like it that way! :-)

I don't think this MTV thing is a very good idea, and I personally got a note from national that we shouldn't be participating because the sorority won't have the final say as to what gets shown...I also agree that the show won't mean anything if everything goes as planned so I think they think that it won't!!!

Another thing, wouldn't it be unfair to the other girls in the rush group? Everyone will remeber the "girl with MTV", but how would that effect her, & the other prospectives', chances of getting a bid? Some house might thnk she's using it to get attention, & dislike her for it, while another house may just want her, just to be on MTV. The total idea is loony, if you think about it.

I'm not sure that the kind of story that MTV is looking to tell would be benificial to the Greek system.
This idea seems like a bad one to me. |
