What stood out in your organization that made you want to become a member.

long story short: I thought it would be cool to be a founding father. It was, but damn, what a lot of work. Plus I liked the Creed,mostly the MY God part. Not somebody else's god. You're loyal to what YOU think is right, because that is what we want. Not people who apostate to fit in.

the first thing i noticed was the ladies on my campus -- they were great people, leaders in the campus community, and were a great example to me as a freshman.

then in my research i grew to feel so connected to the mission and principles of Lambda Theta Alpha, its status as the first and most trailblazing Latina sorority, and I loved the fact that it is a multicultural organization whose members would welcome me regardless of my race.

Simply put- just about everything.

There was going to be parties and good times, but also an emphasis on grades and philanthropy. Plus the sororities respected the house. We were not one of the large top tier houses getting the best parties, but the ladies I spoke with all had great things to say.

Overall, there was a balance there that I liked. There was the social side of it, but never was it forgotten why we were all in college to begin with.

Sigma Nu colonized, I didn't have a high opinion of any of the other groups on my campus at the time, so I went ahead and joined up. I figured that if I would be able to have in impact as to what sort of chapter we would be, that I would never have room to complain.

They're doing pretty well. We started the colonization process in '99, finished in '02. This year, ('06), the chapter took home an award stating that if it continues to do as well as it has been for the next few years, it will be among the top 8 or so Sigma Nu chapters in the country (by far, the chapter set the record in attaining that distinction).

I was initially attracted by their great reputation on campus, but when I met them during formal recruitment what stood out was that I felt comfortable and at home when I was in their house and talking to the sisters.

I started so there was nothing!:D

But now, I can see why I would join my GLO!:D

Phi Sig:

I found out I already knew a lot of sisters when I got to college. There were two in particular that went to my highschool (one was my dance team captain and later my Membership Orientation Chair - aka Mom - when I was in hs and she came back to visit, she really made me want to be a Phi Sig).

I felt at home with my chapter, they were not cookie-cutter, everyone was involved in other campus activities, we did a lot of super fun things... it was great!

TBS:
I wanted to be in TBS over KKPsi because the TBS sisters were always having a good time and working hard - many were in my Phi Sig chapter too! I just felt I fit in better with our TBS chapter rather than our KKPsi chapter - they had fun, but were more business like! (even though I still <3 them!)

I had gone to an info session and what stood out to me and made me want to join was how they genuinely looked like they had fun together and enjoyed hanging out together, even at an info session.

I went to a party and saw educated Black men treating each other, and the party guests with respect and care. There was a line of people out the door to the party at 1:00 AM and bruhs weren't turning people away or telling them that they had to be on a list or something. Later in the school year, I saw a probate show and noticed that the campus showed a lot of respect and admiration for the fraternity. Not to bash the IFCs on my yard, but the Alphas (and the rest of the NPHC) run everything on campus and they have approval from the university community. They drank and partied hard, but academics, community service, and love for all mankind were equally (if not more) important. Even though membership's exclusive, all students, faculty, and friends were accepted at functions and events.

And I'll admit it... I wanted to learn how to step, stroll, call, and impress the hell out of everybody that knew me.

The biggest draw for me was seeing what Theta Nu Xi had accomplished in its short time of existence. I continue to be amazed. I wanted to be part of an organization that was here to stay and would be going places. Everything else is icing on the cake!

Interesting comments. I chose Kappa Alpha Psi simply because the way they carried themselves. They always dressed sharp, and they were really cocky. Not an arrogant cocky but a confident cocky. When I went to other campuses, they were the same way there too. Most importantly the Fraternity was founded based on Christian principles. They also believed in achieving and being the best at whatever career field you chose.

Though I don't drink or smoke and I'm not a party goer, they still accepted me for who I am knowing that they always threw the best parties. Out of 217 guys that went to the interest meeting, only 7 were picked. One dropped out so 6 of us made it.

Though the Founders of Kappa Alpha Psi founded the Fraternity on Christian principles, they didn't discriminate based on race, religion or creed.

I joined my organization, a historically Asian American Fraternity because of what it was.

I lived with 5 kids the beginning of my freshman year who rushed IFC organizations. After they became members, they only seemed to care about partying or drinking.

PDPsi stood and stands for a true committment to Cultural Awareness. Even though I am white, it didn't matter. The organization exists to really make a change in how people think about culture, and how we are individuals interact based on pre-conceived notions about other groups.

Additionally, the brotherhood they had, with only 5 of them on campus was very tight. They were also very socialable individuals and prominent within the Asian American community.

I just knew that TD was right for me. There wasn't a Tau Delta stereotype. They were a crazy bunch of girls, and they were refreshingly honest, non-perfect, and just...so very different. I immediately knew I could have a place there, a place to be my self, a place where they LIKED my self, weirdness and all! the "To Thine Own Self Be True" motto was what stuck to me, and still does. I was invited to TD's novelty (1st round) party, and of the 3 i was invited to, it just felt like a party I'd go to on my own, and I felt completely at ease, not like i was being evaluated. There were activities, involvement, interaction, and it was all so vrery natural, and FUN! I got to know a lot of PNMs and sisters at that party. I was heartbroken to be released from rush after the first round. But I still signed my preference card, with TD at the top. And fortunately, my sisters took a chance on me, and I can never repay them for it. Tau Delta is this wonderful combination of steady and constantly changing. There are some very deeply rooted traditions that we stand by 100%, but I like that we add new ones as we see fit...it's what keeps us young.
