Honorary Members

I'm not a Kappa, yet, but I plan to pledge this upcoming Academic Year. I was wondering why Kappa Alpha Psi don't appoint honorary members like other BGLOs. For instance, a couple of years ago Alicia Keyes became an honorary member of Alpha Kappa Alpha. I think Kappa should make Will Smith and/or Nelly honorary members of their great organizations.

What do you all think?

I am not a Kappa, but I can probably provide some helpful advice.

1) Nothing is guaranteed. Therefore, having a screen name such as yours and using language such as "Not a Kappa, yet" are presumptuous at best and not respectful at worst.

2) Discretion is key. Your interest in any Greek lettered organization should be something you share only with the people who matter -- usually the members of the chapter you'd like to be a member of and members of the organization who are in your family.

3) Both Kappa and Alpha discontinued honorary memberships decades and decades ago. While I wasn't there when the decisions were made, I believe that great men are attracted to both organizations. If a man has Kappa or Alpha in his heart, then he will express his interest to the right people.

And as great as Will Smith or Nelly might be, in your opinion, neither of them have college degrees and aren't eligible for membership in a fraternity.

However, in your quest, perhaps you could focus on the prominent members of the org you're pursuing who might not have international fame -- the Kappa down the street who volunteers at the soup kitchen every week.... the Kappa who runs the after school program....the deacons of your church... etc....

Black fraternities do great things every day, with or without honorary members.

LOL! Nelly and Will Smith for Kappa in '06? ROFL! Why don't we have honoraries? Maybe its because we believe every member of our organization should earn their wages...we don't just give this sh!t away for free for the simple desire to accumulate numbers or have another "famous frat brother." Its about quality with us...speaking of which you definitely need to change your screenname, I can understand the strong desire but thats just foolish. You are on a large website and you have no idea who's watching, you will mess around and get blackballed. Be descreet and be humble!

I honestly think this is some @$$hole with a lot of time on their hands. I won't even give you the benefit of a response to that question. But I will kindly tell you to disappear or change ur screen name to Kappa2Bstomped

Okay, I have been absent for a while and have to come back to my block with some isht like this...GET A LIFE dude. While your intent is understandable, your route to get there is going to get you to a dead end. You will end up always being a spectator. I fully understand and appreciate your desire to be accepted into this Noble Klan of Achieving Gentlemen, but everybody who knocks at your door, doesn't deserve to come in your house. Just a word to the wise (assuming you are just that--wise), change the screen name, and wait patiently. If it is to be it will come. You can never rush a piece of coal into a diamond--that's what makes them valuable!;)

I agree with Senurset I that discretion is key because (please highlight) you may never know who on this board is also from SC, knows a lot of Kappas (even possibly on the regional level and still tight with several of the chapters) and has a father, uncles and a best friend who are Kappas. Get my drift? ;)

True, but they should even tell their kids better. It's great to have an interest, but they might want to keep their intentions to themselves.

You would think that after all of these years of GC being up that folks would know some of the rules of being a discreet interest. But that would require research. :o

True! But I was trying to tell him that I know a lot of people and he's from SC too (and it is a small state), he may need to keep his mouth closed. ;)

Sista' Greek,

You were right. Sometimes it's best to say nothing at all.

These kids make me wanna scream some times.

Natty Nupe 08-24-2006 03:15 PM

oh, he's from sc!!. pray dont let this knucklehead try and go over at Big AL.

on another note, thats the world we inhabit now, ppl just think that we MUST accept them b/c they have so and so GPA, so many hours blah blah, then when they get blanked they want to carry their grievances outside the chapter. can't stand it.
