Another Work Week Question

Each year my sorority's AA at an undisclosed city coordinates with its city's mutliple collegiate chapters to hold a Recruitment Preview during Spirit/Work Week. It gives the area collegians a chance to perform their skit before a live audience, give house tours and practice conversation with VIP guests who range from alumnae and parents to young girls ages 8-16.

Recruitment at these schools is at the end of Sept and the preview event is just before recruitment. Is there any reason why a HS Junior or Senior could not attend this preview event? Technically, these juniors and seniors have started their school year by that preview weekend.

I say seniors should be able to attend-- silence does not apply to the seniors-- they can't tecnically be considered "rising college freshmen" until the end of their senior year, correct?

Also, I was assisting this AA with some marketing materials. Is there anything wrong with sharing facts about ADPi on a welcome letter? This letter welcomes guests to ADPi and tells them some very brief sorority history (first secret society for collegiate women in the world, founded in GA), as well as a brief explanation of what the NPC is. It is no way makes mention of ADPi as the best, only or the sure choice that you consider if you go through recruitment at a later date. The ADPi alumna in charge of the event feels this is positioning ADPi at an unfair advantage over others if we mention it in the letter. But the event is at an ADPi house! And the people attending are either ADPi members, young ladies who are not in college and their moms.

It's been some years since I picked up a Greek Book, but I think some of these older alumnae are being paranoid. And I don't get why the chapter is not coordinating this, (I don't get why the AA is planning the event) but that's a whole other story.

It makes sense if the AA is coordinating multiple chapters. And I think that you'd be ok with such a letter. I don't think there's any reason why you couldn't talk to the juniors/seniors as part of silence (they are clearly NOT rushing) either. So... my thought is, you're ok.

/IANA NPC rules expert though

i agree-i don't see why juniors and seniors couldn't attend. there is no guarantee that they will even attend the same college, and you are not so much selling a d pi as you are selling sororities.

Thank you, both! I agree, but the woman who runs this event is adamant about her interpretation, despite other members pointing these facts out to her. Oh well. Not my problem. Thanks again for your input.

I think what you are doing is wonderful. I know many houses at Ole Miss have a "mock recruitment" event with alumnae and parents and sometimes even high school students will attend. I mean if an alumna brings her high school daughter and her daughter's friends I don't know how that would be a problem. Some alumnae even bring their sons and husbands! I know this helps the chapters big time because they get to practice their skits and songs and practice setting up decorations and tables.
