Welcome Back Activities?
How does your chapter welcome new and returning students to campus?
|
UK has a whole weekend program called Kentucky Welcome. Here is the schedule:

At Minnesota, we step at convocation, and those not stepping, hand out "Welcome Freshmen" flyers with details of all our planned activities for the semester, an invitation to our Back to School Party, and undergrad contact information.

Just out of curiosity, what happens to a new student who doesn't attend a "required" activity? Like the theatrical performance regarding violence against women, for example. Who would know whether you went or not, and what would happen to you if you didn't? Maybe it's just me (and perhaps this belongs in a different thread), but I thought college was a time for young adults to make their own decisions and live with the consequences. I'm all for abiding by the rules, but some rules (like requiring attendance at a theatrical performance) don't have any business being in place on a college campus. Sorry for the rant. |

From the FAQ: What if I cannot attend a mandatory Kentucky Welcome event? Although there is no penalty for missing a mandatory Kentucky Welcome event, it is to your detriment to do so. Kentucky Welcome activities are designed to meet the needs of new students. Students who do not take full advantage of the activities and resources available to them will be at a disadvantage compared to other new students. While students may be upset about skipping a vacation or family event to attend Kentucky Welcome, they should remember that they only begin college once and should devote their time and attention to getting a good start. Even sorority recruitment has a required Safety Awareness Session (that actually is required.) |
