Recruitment at UCONN
I have a dear niece interested in going through recruitment at UCONN as a sophomore. I am the only Greek affiliated member of the family, but I went through at a highly competitive Southern campus, and I suspect Recruitment and Greek Life in general are very different at UCONN. I seem to find about six different groups none of them mine. Can anyone give me insight about how recruitment is handled at this or most northern campuses and some idea whether being a sophomore will be a problem for her as it surely would have been on my campus? Will Recs be essential or of any value at all?

I've advised at 3 schools in the NE (RI and MA), and I've never seen a rec. I wouldn't worry about them at all. Rush is very laid back, I doubt that being a sophomore will hurt her as well. Sophomores go through rush without a problem at all the schools I know of up here. I don't have any info on UConn specifically, but I doubt it's much different from URI, UMass, etc. Good luck to your niece!

Co-sign to what lauralaylin said. A girl from my HS rushed at UConn as a sophomore and got a bid without a problem. The only reason I'd see to worry about getting your niece recs would be if she was 110% sure that she only wanted to join one sorority.
