Does anyone know anything about Jazz dance classes?

I took ballet for many years growing up but now am thinking of taking a Jazz class and don't have a clue as to how upbeat it is (hoping to burn off a few pounds while hopefully having some fun). Also, anyone know the diff between Modern and Jazz?
