rush

I am planning on rushing this fall for a fraternity at Auburn, but i don't know all that much about what goes on during rush, and what to do. I don't really know anybody that is going to Auburn that is planning on rushing so I'll pretty much be on my own going through rush. I was wondering if anybody could give me some advice and tips about how to go about this. Do I just walk up and say hey and introduce myself or what? Also I was wondering about what it is like to be a legacy and if that is looked down upon in a fraternity. Thanks.

Most fraternities will have a schedule of Rush events. I'm not sure if on your campus all of the fraternities do it at the same time or not, but generally speaking you do just walk up and someone should introduce themselves to you. They want to meet you after all. If you seem to connect to the guys, then come back and see them again and again until invitationals/smokers/whatever they are... and see if you get asked back. I don't think it's uncommon to go to more than one fraternity for the first day or so, but narrow it down quickly.

Your campus culture may not be the same as above... hopefully someone else can give info, or you can contact the Greek Affairs people at Auburn, or.. .well I don't think my advice is that terrible if it's all you have to go by :)

rushing

Dude, from what I understand Auburn has a huuuuuuuge greek life community with close to 30 fraternities. I'm sure they have some sort of formal fraternity rush like we have at USC (South Carolina, not Southern Cal). I honestly didn't even do rush and had no intentions of joining a fraternity my freshman year, however, me and a bunch of my buddies from the floor of my freshman dorm just sort of started hanging out with the guys and fell into it when they offered us bids (a "type 3 rushee" if you will). So just go out there and see where you end up. Also, if your a legacy that typcially means you automatically get a bid, however my chapter has balled two legacies in the past because they totally sucked balls.
