What's most important?Grades/activities/recs?
What would you all say is most important - grades/activities/recs? How do your sororities do first cuts based on these three things? Thanks!!

Too low of grades will get you cut due to policy. Recs go one way or the other depending on the school and chapter. Depends on if you need them or not. Activities are one of those intangible things. I think they're most useful for creating a connection between you and the member rushing you. If you have a 4.0 and are super involved and saved the whales but act completely uninterested during rush, none of that other stuff matters... |
Thanks for your help. Haven't been on the other side of rush in 30+ years and have had friends with daughters wanting to go through rush, but not wanting to put themselves out there if they - a) had no rec b) had a 3.0 or lower c) had just a few activities. I was just trying to help, didn't even think about how private membership selection was - like I said - it's been a long time. Sorry for taking your time.

It's ok, there have been a LOT of rec discussions around here lately.
It makes a big difference where your friends' daughters are going to school. In the Midwest.. probably no big deal, they should rush anyway, in the SEC they should probably wait it out. Sugget that they contact the Greek Affairs office (they may have to dig around the website) and call and ask questions about rush. :) |
Our members are chosen because of their total package, not because of one factor, such as grades, that they have to offer.
Other than that, most membership selection information is private, and different chapters give more weight to different factors. |
Fraternities on the other hand give most weight to how you click with the house. :)
