MGLO rush/intake
How does rushing work for multicultural orgs? I plan on rushing for one this Fall. However there are about 3 MGLO's at my school and all of them seem interesting . Any advice in choosing?
Thanks :D |
I'm not sure if all MCGLOs rush the same way. Some may be more like NPC and some more like NPHC, you may need to give more information.
As for choosing, with any GLO you should look at the people who would be your brothers/sisters, the values of the GLO, and where you feel you belong. |
from what I know they all work like the NPHC. I rather not give the names right now, but two are well known MGLO's on GreekChat and the other is a latina-based sorority with multicultural membership. I'm not too sure about the last one anymore because I want anyone I call my sisters to be from diverse backgrounds...but I'm going off tangent.
School doesn't start for another month so I guess I'll have to go by websites for the other two. |
If they run rush like the NPHC then you need to look into them now, determine which GLO you prefer and attend the info night for that chapter. If they work together well and have sort of an all GLO info night definately go to that, though I don't know what the campus culture is as far as attending more than one chapter's event.
Hopefully a MCGLO member can give you more advice :) Welcome to GC! |
thank you!

research!
M0nkeys, you REALLY need to do some significant research. Based on your original post, it is clear that you haven't looked into membership closely enough. I'm not saying this to be mean--I'm speaking from experience and you need to understand that this is a serious undertaking.
You really need to pick ONE organization that is your TOP CHOICE and ONLY CHOICE after doing research. Research includes talking to members on your campus and other campuses, participating in their events that are open to the community, and learning all you can. This is a lifetime committment for most organizations, so you really need to be sure you are pursuing membership in the organization that is not only best for you, but that you can best contribute to. Good luck to you! :) |
Do your research and see each organzations values, goals, etc....look around and see what you like. We recruited this summer at freshmen orientations and I always told the girls i spoke to that they should look around.Once school starts you'll soon see flyers and banners and go to the interest meetings.
I'm a sister of Kappa Delta Chi. Most of my sisters are latinas but we pride ourselves in being diserve. I have some of the most awesome sisters:) so just look around and see what you feel comfortable in. |
My organization encourages rushees to meet us first. Find those with letters and tell them you're interested.

Doesn't the phrase Latina encompass diversity? I would think there's a big difference between Puerto Rican culture as compared to Mexican culture as compared to South American.....

To me, multicultural means not just black, white, brown, etc but Japanese, Chilean, Norwegian, African American, Irish, Egyptian, South African, Pakistani and Russian. This doesn't mean that there's going to be one of each in a MCGLO, just like there's not only Latina's in a Latina GLO, BUT the mental picture, as well as the goal of the organization, is different. To your average Joe on the street, Latina/o is a specific subset of culture. Yeah, there's a big difference from one to the other, but from the outside looking in, you don't really see that. How many Argentines get wished a Happy Cinco de Mayo? /sorry so long |
