Jenny Craig?
Has anyone tried it? Does it help at all?
I'm not obese, or even overweight, but I'd like to lose 15 lbs & be in better shape. |
You can do better on your own
I tried Jenny Craig about 7 years ago under similar circumstances as you. I wasn't overweight, but had put on a few pounds and wanted to shed them.
I found that the weekly cost for the food you have to buy was wayyyyy too expensive after awhile - it actually came out to be more than I normally spent on groceries for a week! Also, at the time I had a job where I had to eat out regularly with customers, etc. and when I asked my JC "counselor" for her suggestions on what to do in these situations (since I wouldn't be able to eat the designated pre-packaged JC meal) she suggested that I take the frozen JC meal to the restaurant and ask them to heat it up for me!! Ahhhh....no!! Not gonna do that!! About a year later I went to a few introductory Weight Watchers meetings, got the information for their Points program, and did that program on my own. I like the WW Points program because you can really eat whatever you want, you just have to be accountable to a certain point range and stay within it. I never felt deprived, and I would even plan for McDonalds, etc. once in awhile and it didn't stop my progress. I also started exercising again (running) and ended up losing a bunch of weight, looked great, and kept it off for years!! My point is - I'm sure you can design a program that works for you better than Jenny Craig. You know yourself, and their one-size-fits-all strategy might not work for you. Unfortunately, I returned to school to finish an undergraduate degree and the stress and crazy student schedule threw me off track, and I stopped exercising regularly and got into the habit of eating too much convenience food. So I've gained some weight back, but that's my fault. So it's back to the gym and the points plan!! |
I just want to say that it always cracks me up that Jenny Craig centers are usually located in a strip mall next to some type of fattening restaurant. The all time topper is the Monroeville Jenny Craig which is located next to Moio's which is an Italian pastry shop. Har.

There used to be a Krispy Kreme about 200 feet across the parking lot from the Curves near me. You could smell the donuts in the parking lot, and they could stare right out the window at Krispy Kreme.
Krispy Kreme is gone (now a bank) but now there's some fancy gourmet chocolate store a few doors down. lol |
I forgot about that!!
OMG!! That is SO true!! I had totally forgotten about that. There was a McDonald's or something or other a stone's throw from the JC "Center" I went to.
Talk about conflicting messages. Kinda like saying you're a virgin, yet insisting on dressing like a skank. :) |

And your customers are looking at you like   when you pull a frozen meal out of your purse and ask the nice waiter at the $50 a plate restaurant to heat it up for you. Yeah, don't think so. |
