I liked this poem... I has some truth.
Just Because…
Just because you A-Phi!!! Doesn’t mean I’ll hold my head down when you walk by. Just because you Yo-Yo!!! Don’t make you my friend, let alone my bro. Just because you grunt and bark, it won’t stop my flow or put fear in my heart. Just because you Blue- Phi!!! Don’t make you trill or ride-or-die. Just because you Ow-Ow!!! I won’t shoot the deuces here and now. Just because you Skee-Wee!!! That doesn’t mean a thing to me. Just because you Ooo-Oop!!! I won’t stop and stare or change my grove. Just because you Z-Phi!!! It ain’t all sweet on the inside. Just because you Eee-Yip! Doesn’t mean others should feel self-conscious. Greeks we are and so Divine. Being no earthly good with our Greek minds. Instead of putting others down we should uplift, those who aren’t as fortunate. Where have all the real Greeks gone? Who are these idiots with t-shirts on? When you pledged you should have learned to love, but now you’re Greek… Just Because |
I mean it has some truth y'all. My bad!

That is very interesting.

Tradegy that it is so true..well what do we do now? Do we read it and talk about it or read it and make change about it? I know I will...how about you???

Unfortunately yes there is some truth to it. The letters do not make the person but it is the person that makes the letters. Just because someone has 3 Greek letters on their chest does not magically make them 'somebody.' It has always been my advice to younger members and neos alike to remember their principles. Greeks are supposed to be leaders not followers. We are supposed to set the standard and our standards are supposed to be set high. If we see our brother or sister out of line the problem should be addressed and not excused. There's a reason we were all taught about excuses.
The older Greeks and the younger Greeks don't always have to agree on everything but there should be some real dialogue between the two. Just like anything else in life you can't expect to come in knowing everything. For us older Greeks we must be willing to share our wisdom and experience while also being open to new ideas. And last but not least all of our organizations must learn to work together. At the end of the day regardless of which organization we joined, as African Americans or minorities we all share the same struggles. So hopefully this poem will give us something to think about and encourage each of us to do a self assessment. |
^^^^ I agree!^^^
The poem should have said "where have all the prophyts gone?" And that caused all these idiots with T-shirts on. |
aww, can't blame the prophytes! we can teach until we're crimson in the face but when you get one of those that slipped through the cracks and doesn't want to listen, there's nothing that a prophyte can do.

But does anyone find the use of the particular calls offensive. I don't. But on my Myspace a few ppl said it was.

Sad to say that poem is still reflective of the divine nine today. The message about having love and respect for all Greeks is not being communicated at all! what a shame.
