When I first saw this commercial, it reminds me of Camp Nowhere. I love Camp Nowhere. Yes, Camp Nowhere is surreal and hated by critics. But I love that movie. I will try to see Accepted.

I like how the school is called the South Harmon Institute of Technology.

:D

I saw the commercial tonight and checked out the website. I like how the house from "Beauty and the Geek" and "Daddy Daycare" is used as the fraternity house for BKE (BEKE).

tunatartare 07-17-2006 11:38 AM

The house was also used in the series State of Grace.

One of the guys from my chapter was in Camp Nowhere. True story.

But not, sadly, Judge Dread . . . unless you're getting the game from 'Martin' that is.

Did he actually have a speaking part, or was he one of the extra kids??

It's been ages since I've seen Camp Nowhere, but I used to love that movie as a kid.

Meh, I thought that was kind of unoriginal. My mom used to call the community college in the town where she grew up that, sinch the town's initials were SH, so it's kind of an old joke to me.

But I'm looking forward to seeing Lewis Black in it, I've been a fan for awhile and he also came to my school last semester, sold out the house and tore it down. Real nice guy off-stage too, and surprisingly soft-spoken.

/hijack: One of the community colleges near my parents, South Suburban, located in South Holland, IL, is informally known as the South Holland Institute of Technology. The other community college, Morraine Valley is known as either Moron Valley, or UCLA - University Closest to LaGrange Avenue. That's high humor in the south suburbs.
/end hijack.

eta: add Morraine Valley snarky comment.

AGDem 07-17-2006 06:43 PM

HA! That's exactly the same school I was talking about. However, I have a friend who goes there now and I asked her if they still called South Suburban that, and she had never heard the joke. Right now I'm taking a class at Prarie State College, which has been lovingly nicknamed "Harvard on Halsted."

What was it in State of Grace? I don't really think it has enough "southern" architecture to have been in that show.

I saw a sneak preview (my b/f's friend works for Universal Pictures) of this last night and it was really funny!!! We agreed that it was a lot better than we thought considering the cast of relatively unknowns. I also just realized today that the lead in the movie is in the current Mac campaign where there's the PC guy and the Mac guy....he's the Mac guy. Anyway, I recommend this movie if you're looking for a young-ish type comedy. :)

ETA: there's also stereotypical Greek humor in there, but nothing too bad. My favorite is a scene where the pledge talks about wanting to wear visors tilted a little bit to the side and use hair gel like the brothers....haha. :)

Rollergirl2001 08-18-2006 03:35 PM

I'm surpised that my paper's local movie critic gave it three stars. I though that he was going to give it 1.5 or 2 stars. He's the only one that really liked the movie. One of the critics gave the movie an F.

Drolefille 08-18-2006 03:40 PM

The critics I like gave it pretty good ratings. I've heard it's actually funny and not just stupid.

It's on my list :p
