The Rose - Bette Midler
Does anybody have a copy of this song, with the AZD words? I found the lyrics on a group on myspace, but I would like to use the song for our slideshow during recruitment, and I want the AZD words version. Maybe someone knows where I can download it or send it to me? Thanks for your help =)

I think I heard it on a CD that the chapter got from Nationals. Not 100% sure but you can check on that.
It is a really beautiful song. We sing it for the Pref Ceremony. |
i got the new paul wall cd if you need lyrics to that
|
Jaime from West GA does an acoustic version of it on her guitar....it's fantastic!! I have her email if you want it....I could also track her down very easily (she made me a "Jaime & Amie" club member a couple recruitments ago! HAHA! LOVE those girls!).
|
yes please. if you can get a copy on cd, or mp3 or something, I would really appreciate it.
Lord, I need to find someone who knows hoow to splice songs together - i cant have 4 songs at 4 or 5 minutes each for this slide show....geesh. |
there are a couple of free porgrams you can use online (or at least have a free trial of). The Adobe Audition is what I reccommend, or if you have/ have access to a MAC, use Garage Band. Free trial of Audition and then go to the box on the right titled "Next Steps" and click "Try Now." That should be good for a few weeks, you have to register, and figure everything out, but it's worth it.

awesome! Thank you, I'll definitely have to do that once I have a copy of all the songs. So far I'm thinking:
Girls Just Wanna Have Fun DJ Scrill "Ride with Me" (AZD version) This Ones for the Girls (Martina McBride) The Rose. I'm not sure what order, or if I'll change/add more songs. I kinda wanna end it on an emotional note (like the rose) but I'm not sure if a "fun" note would be more appropriate. Hmmm. |
We used the Martina mcbride song too, it was a big hit. Do you have a part of the slide show dedicated to philanthropy? If so, we used the acoustic version of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole (Listen here).
|
yes, because originally we were going to use the slideshow that headquarters has on the website for philanthropy night, but then we decided that slideshows 2 nights in a row would be overkill, so I'm going to try to find a way to add in philanthropy stuff - even though we dont have many pictures of our own, I might use some ideas from HQ.

*Amanda does a happy dance*
I got all my songs "squished" together today. Yay! Now....for the fun part. Pictures and captions. Eeesh! |
you should upload it onto send space or youtube when you're done (or after recruitment) so we can see! yay for you!:):)

This came up again....and I'm surprised I didnt post the lyrics last time I found them. So....here they are, FYI....
The Rose Some say friends pass through your lifetime And touch you on your way These are friends but for a moment Ling'ring here, then gone away But I've got friends These cherished sisters True Friends in Alpha Xi No matter where I am tomorrow A sister waits for me Memories we share together Happy times we can recall Holding hands and lifting voices Truly close to one and all Fresh and young or hair turned silver It matters not to me These are all my cherished sisters True Friends in Alpha Xi Through the years we grow together Building strength throughout the land Holding fast from those ideals from Our Founders' Guiding hands We sing thy praise Alpha Xi Delta For our sisters yet to be We are all these cherished sisters True Friends in Alpha Xi |
I am sitting at my desk and my eye just flooded with tears. I remember the first time I heard the song during a pref ceremony and then performing the song (Sign Language not singing, I can't sing) at installation in front of our National Council. Brought back such great memories.

The sister who was my financial advisor when I was FVP (and is now a friend!) plays it for preference for our chapter on harpe. She also played for me at my wedding - it was the song my bridesmaids walked out to before I made entrance. I get choked up everytime I hear it...
How awesome that you got to perform it in sign language. Did you have sisters who have a hearing disability, or you just happen to know sign language and thought it would be neat to do? |
I am fluent in sign and I thought it would be a nice touch for our installation. With any language there are words lost in translation so when practicing and preparing for the event I had to really disect the song and pay attention to the meaning of every word.
I would love to hear it on the harp that is awesome. If I have sisters in my bridal party that is a great idea. I might do it even if I don't have sisters in the bridal party. I think it is a perfect song with a lot of meaning to AXiD's everywhere. I have been searching for it as a ringtone for my phone (verizon) and I have had no luck. I thought that would be neat to set for when a sister calls. |
