Gift for recommenders?
Three colleagues and one former professor were kind enough to write me law school recommendations. I've sent thank you notes, and I'm keeping them up to date on my progress with admissions... but once I have made my final decision, I would like to give each one a gift for their help and support throughout the process. Any ideas? They're all older gentlemen, ranging in age from 55-65.
Whiskey and golf come to mind, but I'd like to keep some kind of budget... I see all of them everyday (except the prof). Thanks! |
I have been in two classes where we liked the professor so much that we gave them beer-related gifts. In one class, we purchased a six-pack of Guinness bottled beer. For another one, we purchased an engraved stein with an inscription in German (since this was the subject matter).
I have only given thank-you notes before. However, I think that if they have major hobbies that they enjoy, you can give them something related to this. Otherwise, perhaps a nice pen or mug. Or flowers if it is a female recommender you have established rapport with. |
This just freaked me out...I was like, didn't I just see the same thing on LSD????
In response though, I think like a card right after they do one for you, and then something else when you find out how things went. Even if you don't get them anything when find out, let them know. I'm sure they'll want to know how things turn out too! (Although probably not as much as we, the people going through this mess, will!) |
LOL-- yes you did! Got to cover all the bases!

I write Thank You notes for profs who recommend me for things. I also make it a point to let them know how things turn out. When I got my internship, I made it a point to stop by both prof's offices during office hours and let them know I'd been accepted.
