famous couples merging names

Am I the only one who finds the name merging (Brangelina, Tomkat) of famous couples irritating? Sure, maybe it saves space or allows people to shorten the number of syllables they actually have to pronounce, but I still can't stand it. I just find it sad that, for instance, Angelina lost part of her identity simply because someone was clever and combined her name with Brad's. They ARE two different people, after all. And yes, I realize that your identity isn't solely in your name, but the two are connected.

It started with the Bennifer thing. But to be fair, those two were so attached at the hip, they did lose their individual identity for awhile.

Why would she lose her "identity" any more than he does? Is her identity so fragile that part of it is "lost" because people refer to them as Brangelina?

Can I make up some new celebreviations? Justeron? Demishton? Gaystar?

She wouldn't. I was giving an example. I thought I'd save time by just listing one person instead of saying, "I just find it sad that Angelina lost part of her identity, and so did Brad. And also Tom as well as Katie." Hence, the phrase, "For instance."

I am pretty indifferent. It doesn't personally affect my life in anyway if Angelina or Brad "lose part of their identity" because some media guy decided to merge their names to make them both fit in the headline space they were given.

My older sister and her boyfriend combined their names just for fun and they are both very independent individuals.

Does that make Jennifer A. & Vince V. = Vinnifer? ;)

The media is generally ridiculous so this isn't all that much different.

I think I've seen them referred to as Vaughnistan in the tabloids.

I know someone who did a similar thing with her and her boyfriend's last name. It made me feel as nauseous then as I feel now.

:p ;)

This is so annoying especially when my friends do it with each other. For example, my younger brother and his girlfriend..."shonathan" I am thinking no.
