Castration for Sex Offenders??

Story on MSN

What are your thoughts on this??

Complicated.

Repeat Sexual offenders such as Pedophiles and (maybe) Rapists....on one hand I wouldn't be against, on the other.. I"m not exactly for.

Rape is about power and no balls might not make a difference there.

I don't think this is the answer, but I also disagree with putting your 18 year old streaker on the sex offender list.

You don't need a penis or testicles to commit a sex crime.

I personally think a psychological eval would have to be done to determine if the root cause of the problem was sexual or violent. Usually, in most rape cases, it's rooted in violence. However, someone like the guy in the article definitely has a problem rooted in his sexual drive. If removing the testicles lowers the sex drive in these type people, I'd be for it for repeat offenders.

i am sure lorena bobbitt would be in favor of it

I'd be more in favor of chemical castration. A sex drive nullifying pill, shot, or something...

I think a trial should be held, after which the victims dad and brothers and friends get to beat the s*** out of the guy. In general I think that should happen without a trial, but I wouldnt want it to happen to people who very likely are innocent (Ahem, Duke).

It hasn't been shown to be effective in anyone. I think there needs to be a lot more research done before this even becomes an option. In order to get more data, I'd be in favor of allowing convicts to volunteer for the 'treatment' in return for freedom, or a lesser sentence.

I'd have a hard time backing something like this until it is proven effective. Until then, it seems a bit cruel and unusual to me.

Also, this is a pretty irreversible thing. Despite the overwhelming majority of people convicted of sex crimes being guilty as hell, there are still quite a few who have been wrongfully convicted. I'd really hate to see this forced upon someone wrongfully convicted.
