University of Arizona rush

I'll be rushing this fall at U of A.

How competitive is it? What are the reputations of various houses?

If anybody has rushed at U of A and has any info I'd really appreciate it!

Here are the links to 2 UofAz rush threads from fall 2003... one NPC group has left campus since then.

Recruitment seems to be, to someone who doesn't have a chapter on campus, to be fairly competative ... althought not nearly as competative as recruitments are in SEC schools.

Here's the link to the greek life web site ... it has lots of relevant information

drop me a PM if you have any specific questions and I'll try to answer

Thank you so much AZ-AlphaXi, that really helped a lot!

Is anybody else rushing at U of a this fall cause I'd totally love to do what UASoph02 and AZpinkkittie did.

Good luck on rush.

Just a word of advice, asking about the reputations of sororities is generally considered a major faux pas. Keep an open mind, and don't let what others say about a group influence your decision.:)

lovebug32 06-28-2006 02:39 PM

I didn't mean it so much in a stereotypical way. I just know that some sororities are religiously based so I was wondering about that and also study hours. I didn't mean it in a which one is popular or sleazy way at all.

I hope I didn't offend you and I'm sorry if I did.

Another question:
How should I dress for check-in and the informational meeting?

check-in and the info meeting are casual dress. Shorts should be fine.

It's ok. Study hour info may be provided at the informational meeting, you could also ask, but it varies from chapter to chapter and even year to year. (We vote and change things a lot!)

As for religiously based, the best thing is to check out the websites of each sorority. Their national sites may be even easier to find information on. A quick google search will net you the most results.

I would say whichever sorority is the friendliest with Beta, but I would be biased.

Are sundresses too formal for Sets I and II?

AZ-AlphaXi 06-28-2006 04:48 PM

I'd say yes ... ok for Set III but not for I and II ..

the chapters will be wearing t-shirts and shorts for set I

the Greek Life guide (that's on line) ...

http://www.union.arizona.edu/csil/gr...ifeGuide06.pdf

has pictures of what to wear and in this case is fairly acurate of what to wear ...

be sure to wear comfortable shoes as you will be walking from house to house and you won't want to have hurting feet

lovebug32 06-28-2006 04:56 PM

I think I'm good to go as far as recommendations. How many would you suggest per house?

Sorry about the questions concerning what to wear. I'd seen the website but I'm nervous (only 50 days to go and all - lol).

If I'm wrong, I hope some U. of Arizona expert will correct me.

one rec per house should be just fine for the UofA ..

lovebug32 06-29-2006 12:43 PM

On the page that suggests what to wear they say a cocktail dress or what you would wear to a dance but what they show in the picture really doesn't fit either of those descriptions. So should I wear what they show or what they say?

Thanks guys! You're so helpful.

AZ-AlphaXi 06-29-2006 01:02 PM

for preference the PNMs usually wear a nice dress and heels ... one you'd wear to a wedding. What they are showing in the picture is representative of what I've seen PNMs wear on preference night.

if you have a question about what to wear .. you can ask your recruitment counselor to look at what you're thinking of wearing.
