Alumna Initiation

Hey ladies - I wanted to get a good convo/debate going here!

I have two friends who recently AIed into another organization. The one friend was very interested in Phi Sig and even had a "Phi Sig fund" for if it ever happened!

Ive talked to a few women about AI - both Phi Sig and not.

If you are unsure what AI is, it is when a woman who is NOT a member of a sorority, joins the sorority after she is out of college (or a mother, etc) someone not of college age.

While Phi Sig does initiate grad students like undergrads at schools... from what I know, AI is rare in Phi Sig.

We initiated our faculty advisor when I was a collegian. Two ACHIEVErs were just initiated (they were not members), so it does happen in Phi Sig - just not to the extent of other orgs. Jane Doe cant email HQ and ask for AI, from what I know, you need to be HIGHLY reccomended by members or have done something signigicant for the org.

Discuss!

PS dont mind any mispellings etc - I am very tired! A long night of "no more students" celebrating last night!

AI

Me and a few of my girls have been talking about it recently and no one seemed to know if we even have AI or honourary members. We know one person that would love to be a part of phi sig but she is no longer in school. She has been vocal about wanting to help out as much as she can and is up for doing anything that needs to be done (with in reason of course). I am interested in knowing what it entails to be an AI.

Phi Sig does do some AI's. Diane Macy the former executive director was an AI from what I understand. Often campus advisors for colonies will be initiated as AIs when a colony is installed.

The interested person would have to contact Phi Sig and ask about AI or maybe you could contact HQ for her.

I think this is EXACTLY how it should be. I don't think we should be offering membership to women who just 'want to join a sorority" because they didnt' get the chance to do it earlier in life. I mean I know they would still contribute... but i think it should be someone who already HAS contributed to our org. and alreaady feels like a sister that should get that honor, otherwise how are we different from say eastern star or Jr. League or any other women's organization if we allow all these people to ask for membership ?
