Help me out...
I didn't do a search, so don't crucify me...but I heard today from a professor of mine (summer school) that ZTA is re-opening the chapter at SMU. I can't find anything on the zta.org about it....Truth? Fiction?
edit: I AM a ZTA alumnae and I live down the street from SMU, which is why I'm curious/excited. I'd love to help out and that's why I'm asking. |
gosh-i hope that you are right. you might contact one of the dallas alumnae chapters-they may know, or you could always call i.o.
if you find something out, please come back and lets us know!! |
I haven't heard anything but I do know that SMU is a place that Zeta has really wanted to recolonize at. I hope this is true. I guess we'll know more after convention.

it's funny; the gentleman that told me what he'd heard ONLY told me b/c he found out that i'm a Zeta....and so is his daughter. she went to UT and is about 10 years older than me....all the same, he can't stop talking about how wonderful our sisterhood is, how much his daughter still loves it and how he holds it in the highest esteem. i LOVE that. |
As president of an alumnae chapter in a Dallas suburb and a member of the Omega chapter house board, I can tell you that many of us wish that the chapter would be re-opened. How soon? We don't know. Re-colonizing a chapter, especially at such a high profile school like SMU, will be an expensive undertaking but the hugely successful re-start of our Phi chapter at Duke gives many of us hope. My guess is that it is still at least 4 years away but the talk around town is that it ideally must be re-opened by the 100th anniversary which is still 10 years off.
Support for collegiate chapters is one of the reasons that new alumnae chapters, like mine, have been started. Alumnae support will be crucial when Omega is re-formed. One of the best things you can do to help is join an alumnae chapter and be sure to mention that you are willing to help when the time comes. =) On a side note...the current Greek Life advisor at SMU is a Zeta and a former province president. Keep you fingers crossed. |
