Assuming that stands for Voice Over Internet Phone?
If so, my ex that lives in Israel uses it...allows him to have a 718 number so it'sa localcall for everyone, and you can't tell the differentce while speaking to him on the phone, it soudnsl iek a regular phone. |

I use VoIP. It works well and it's inexpensive. I do have to say that I've had some problems with it at certain times of the day when Internet traffic in my area is heavy. This is around 7pm until 9pm on weeknights; ocassionally, I've had people tell me that they can't hear me that well during that time. Other than that, no complaints here. The technology will only get better so I recommend it.

I have had Vonage for little over a year. It's pretty good, except for when people tell me that they can't hear me.

I think VOIP=Voice Over Internet Protocol. I have no experience with it, but have two reservations:
1) I believe that when your internet service goes down, your phone does also. If your internet service is from your TV cable company, you lose all three at once. 2) The bandwidth problem mentioned above during peak usage times. There's only so much you can cram into a pipe, and with more video, data and other stuff being added to the internet on a daily basis it seems to me that the problem can only get worse. As I said, though, I have no direct experience and could be wrong. |
To piggyback on DeltAlum, also PLEASE be sure to check that your correct address will pop up in your city's 911 system. Companies are required to keep that information updated at all times, but services like Vonage are sorely lacking in this area. But then again, I am totally biased since my employer offers the most realiable VOIP services there are.
But digress..... :D |
