80s Party...Need Costume Help

Hey all. I need to help with a costume for an upcoming 80s party that I'm going to. I'm going all out with a scrunchie, crimped hair, puffy paint shirt (with the neck cut out), spandex pants and jelly shoes. I need to find one of those t-shirt clips. The GC girls will probably remember what I'm talking about. It's one of those clips where you would pull the corner of your t-shirt through. I'm trying to find one on Ebay but can't find the "official" name for it so I'm not getting any search results. Does anyone have an idea where I can find one?

No, but there are several things that work pretty well. There are some barettes that you can slide the t-shirt through. You can also just tie the corner (that's what we did in the earlier 80's, til someone came out those clips). You can also rubber band it, like a little pony tail.

Did they have an actual, formal name other than "t-shirt clips?" T-shirt ties, maybe?

Here's one:

How about those clips you use for chips?

Get a rainbow scrunchie and tie up the corner of your shirt in that.

They were just called t-shirt clips. Scrunchies work just as well.

This thread is resurrecting some painful memories! The 80s was a decade of Fashion Don'ts!

Thanks for the ideas. Also, does anyone know where I can find a pair of shiny, spandex pants? I know the dance stores have them but I don't want to have to spend a lot on them.

You may be able to get them in the exercise apparel section of a dept store-- if you can't find full-lenth pants, try biker shorts.

you can always use black stockings ... and just cut the feet out. one of my sisters had an 80's roller skating party, and we had to dress up for it, and we wore the black stockings (from a drug store) under our skirts, and they looked just like leggins ... they worked really well, and its much cheaper than having to go running around looking for leggins!! :D have fun!

You can get black footless tights at Old Navy for $6.50.

Shiny, spandex pants are actually late seventies - not eighties. That whole roller disco thing and all.

Someone upthread mentioned biker shorts - a much more authentic eighties choice! Especially cute with frilly ankle socks. And, yes, I know way too much about this :)
