Iyanla and Ananda
With the fall season around the corner there are a lot of new shows coming out. So what do you think about Iyanla's new show and Ananda Lewis(MTV VJ) has a talk show as well? While I'm excited that there are more Black women on tv I'm curious as to what they will talk about and how they will set themselves apart.

I haven't seen either show... I know Iyanla's show is supposed to be more touchy-feely psycho stuff, but what does Ananda have to say that's interesting? Shoot, I'd rather watch Queen Latifah!
|
I have to stand up for my fellow Howardite. Although, all we got to really see Ananda do on MTV was kinda just be cute and ask topical questions to music industry people, she is quite bright. She has a BA with honors and is very much on top of current events. I love Queen to death...she is a cool sista...I did a couple of videos for her. But it ain't like she brought so much more to the table with her show as Ananda is bringing as a professionally trained broadcast journalist.

Am I the only person on the planet who notices that Iyanla doesn't bring anytihng new to the table??
Come on now, what does she really say that you couldn't have figured our for yourself? Now if you read her books and then say," That's true" thats proof right there, you knew the answer all along. [I think you know how I feel] Ananda, hmmm....okay, well what is she going to address that wasn't addressed on her MTV gig? Queen Latifah was always packed with social commentary from day, one so one could figure out that her show would follow along the same lines-and it did. [Does it still come on, though?] But after the jump to MTV Ananda lost the serious journalistic edge she had on "Teen Summit", so I just have this idea that her show will be all about fashion, etc...and she's already done that so she doesn't need a new show. Remember when Robin Givens took over "Forgive or Forget"? [Yuck!] |
The only book I liked of Iyana was Acts of Faith. The others were all double talk BS IMHO! I'm not rushing to see the show, if I happen to be scanning the channels one day and run up on it, then I'll check it out.

My question is: Does the world really need another talk show? I'm willing to go out on a limb and say no! I think the Iyanla show might be a carbon copy of Oprah. I don't know about Ananda's show, but I know I probably won't watch. The only talk shows I seem to like are Larry King Live and *cough*Jerry Springer*cough*.

Well dang!
Can I get my own show too? I watched a little bit of Iyanla's show. Like someone already said she brings nothing new to the table. It wasn't anything special. |
Could it be that just maybe...Iyanla's show was just too late. We have indeed seen her on Oprah a million times, read her book, and now we are to watch her daily on television? I agree. Enough is enough. Was n't their some controversy about her background in the healing arts?

I saw Iyanla's show a couple of nights ago, and I have to say that I was not impressed in the least. Maybe my expectations are too high, but when I see her, Yoruba Priestess (which she is) is the last thing on my mind. In fact, the show was about how to get bargains from everything from sheets to plane tickets. And she is a rather poor host, truth to tell.
|
I happened to stubble across Iyanla's show LATE the other night and struggled to watch it for 5 minutes. She was talking about how to buy bargains and so forth. She had horrible guests on there with no personality and she is absolutely GHETTO....I was not impressed with her style.
There are toooooo many Reality shows and talk shows. |
Well I have seen Iyanla's show since it's premiere just about (except for the days I have class) and it really isn't all that. I expect more from Ananda. I watched her when she was on Teen Summit and she did a much better job than being on MTV. Yes she may seem like a copycat Queen Latifah but I'm giving her a shot to prove herself. It's time for some new flavor for the talk show scene, since we know its going to be here. Oprah is cool and all but she's more for middle class older Americans. Ricki Lake, Jenny Jones, and Jerry Springer just don't appeal to me with their constant "I have a secret, I'm gay or I'm pregnant by my brother's girlfriend's father" episodes ~ basically trash! Montel Williams has the battered women/men, you are the baby of my father so pay child support shows! Maury Povich w/ all the disabled (even though its nothing wrong w/being physically challenged) shows! Sally Jesse Rapheal ~ she's just a combination of everything above... Ananda is the right addition for this...they need to get rid of these experienced talk show host!

A world without Jerry Springer??
wow... |
Did anyone hear that Michael Baisden is also getting a talk show?
