As soon as I saw the title of this thread, I knew you were gonna jump all over it.

See??? You don't even have to sell your kidney now.:p

For $20 though, it's probably really crappy seats.

aabby757 06-15-2006 02:34 PM

I've done it before.

The $20 tickets are for the first two rows.

But you have to stay in line for a few hours and they pick your name from a hat.

Rent does that too and a few other shows do too.

My question is how many hours do you have to be there?

That is what I can't remember.

What time they pick your name etc.

Thanks.

I know Rent does it, I didn't know anyone else did it. My friends who've done it for Rent said they've had to get there pretty early (a couple of hours in advance to wait online) and that they couldn't see much from their seats because of the way the stage is designed. I would assume that since Wicked is such a popular show you would have to get there pretty early. Your best bet would be to call the theater's box office and ask them.

This isn't the same as student rush tickets, right?

We used our old college IDs (they didn't have dates) to see 42nd street about 5 years ago. We got there about 45 minutes before, showed our IDs and got the tickets for $25 or something like that.

Really? What were the seats like?

xo_kathy 06-16-2006 01:59 PM

They were balcony seats, so not great, but not horrible. Not restricted view or anything.

Hi aabby, here is the info about the $25 lottery from the Wicked Web site.

A day-of-performance lottery for $25
front-row seats will be held daily for WICKED
at Broadway's Gershwin Theatre
(222 W. 51st St.).

Each day, 2½ hours prior to show time
(11:30 AM for 2 PM matinees; 12:30 PM for
3 PM matinees; 4:30 PM for 7 PM performances; 5:30 PM for 8 PM performances), people who present themselves at the Gershwin Theatre box office will have their names placed in a hat. 30 minutes later, names will be drawn for 28 front-row seats at $25 each. This lottery is available only in-person at the box office, with a limit of two tickets per person, cash only. Photo-ID required.
