Birthday Gifts

Birthday Gifts for New Guy?

New Guy is less of a metrosexual intellectual (like the last one!) and more of a guy's guy--- athletic, into camping/hunting, has a golden retriever, working outside/home repairs on the weekend, etc... Not sure what to get him for his birthday. I'm taking him out for a nice "steak dinner."

Birthday is tomorrow... I'm procrastinating. No time to order anything online. Gift ideas? No local Houston gift certificates... he lives in the Midwest.

Hmm maybe a Lowe's or Home Depot gift certificate or a new set of tools if you know of any that he needs.

I don't know why, but my brothers and boyfriend always have some sort of fancy swiss army-ish knife on them, or are ogling someone elses. And none of them are particularly outdoorsy...but I know my bf gets a lot of use out of it, because I often see him pulling it out for some reason or another. I'll ask him for some good recommendations and PM you.

Thanks! That sounds like it has potential!

On the pocket knife idea....get him a LEATHERMAN!! I can't stress this enough...they're awesome!! They cost a bit, but they are worth it!

You can always shop through www.cabellas.com too :)

Does he take his dog out with him when he hunts? There's tons of possiblities there also!

Ok, I decided if he makes it to Christmas, I'll get the pocketknife. But for now, I've decided to ruin his self-esteem by adding a nice Banana Republic button shirt to make fun of all of his Abercrombie polos.

Is there a chain outdoor goods store near him? My brother is really into rock-climbing, but my cousin didn't know what exactly to get him for Christmas. So my cousin got my brother a gift card to REI.

Damnit, I keep taking too long to post a reply on this new GC.

Gifts for new people suck. It's like "Hey dude I only knew you for like a week". It also sucks if you get a new job and someone is retiring or something and they collect money from people.

Update: He loved the shirt and wore it to a manager's meeting. He got compliments all day from co-workers and managers!

See what happens when you dress like a grown-up?

A new spin on this topic. My boyfriend's b-day is approaching and I'm planning on getting him a massage at a local spa and taking him out to a nice dinner. I want to get something else as well but I have no ideas. I'm looking to spend like another 40-60 bucks on the other gift. Clothes are a bad idea...he likes to pick out his own stuff (as I learned over the holidays). Any suggestions?

adpiucf 08-01-2006 04:54 PM

What are his hobbies?

Well he does yardwork a lot....but I wouldn't really call that a hobby! haha. He plays golf, likes movies, likes buying tools for yardwork...LOL
