Does other organizations have the right to call each other "soror/frat?"
 

Hello Sorors of Zeta Land,
I'm a neo, and I've always wondered if other organizations have the right to call each other "frat/soror". I know that WE do, cause' THE ONLY TRUE FAMILY IS THE BLUE FAMILY!!! But, let's say for example, can Alphas call AKA's their sorors? I mean, if they're not really family, how can they call each other by those names? I know I can't change it, but it urks me, and I was just wonderin'. What do ya'll think?

You know Soror people will call each other what ever they want...regardless of how "true" the relationship is to life. I agree it is bothersome when, non Greeks inquire about the brother/sister relationship of any NON Royal Blue and White Family organization and someone actually answers...with anything other than "We don't have a brother/sister organization".

And 9 times out of 10 further discussion about how "their" family bond is important because of blah, blah, blah will follow why they are related. What? Huh? Just answer the question. It just gets silly. No need to make an excuse for why your organization is not constitutionally bonded. Accept it. We have differences...right?

Hello Sorors,

I don't believe that members of those other organizations should be calling each other frat or soror (unless speaking to a member of your respective organization). But it is done, and will be done forever. Some people must always try to find a way to connect themselves to others. Refering to each other as frat and soror is probably the most common way it is done.

Like the soror from Alpha chapter said, "people will call each other what ever they want...regardless of how "true" the relationship is to life". With that in mind, we should not even worry about it. It aint us. After all our members (you know who they are) had the wisdom and foresight to constitutionally bind our organizations as sisters and brothers.

Although I shouldn't be care, it bothers me sometimes. Maybe I'll get over that as I grow in Sigma. I suspect you'll grow out this also.

I understand what you mean. I have a question (not disrespectful): although the Blue and White Family is the only constitutionally recognized "frat/soror" relationship...are you all the FIRST ones to signify a bond b/w a fraternity and a sorority? Back then, they may not have used the term "frat/soror"...many people STILL don't use that terminology, but were ya'll the first to establish bonds? Curious.

I agree 100%. Being a neo myself, I am proud that the blue and white family set the example for other bglo. It's great that they
wanted to identify with the love we have for our Frat Brothers and vice versa. As long as we keep in mind that we are the only and first(at least to my knowledge) "CONSTITUITIONALLY BONDED" brother and sister glo. Now let's take the lead in other endeavors for them to follow.

Maybe it doesn't matter in the larger scope of things but for the sake of THIS discussion, it IS relevant. After all, you (collectively) say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery BUT if you were not the first, then who is imitating?

I am not an historian, neither do I claim to be. I do know of the delta relationship with Alphas and Ques and how some of their members aided in your formation as an organiZation(many of your founders married them)but you all chose to not to solidify your bonds with either of them. I also know that the akas were helped by the Alphas in their formation, but again, they chose not to solidify their relationship with them. From the time Zeta was formed, it was formed to be the Sister organiZation to Phi Beta Sigma, so we just did'nt get "help" from Sigmas(and we have more than the african violet in common with them), we took an extra step that the other Sororities did not in forming a everlasting relationship with our Brothers (and none of our Founder ever even married Sigmas). We stand as two independent organiZations with a common dream, a common history, goals, and definitely more than just a piece of paper...but it does not define who we are as an organiZation...

I made my views perfectly clear about what I felt about our bond with Sigmas and other's bonds with other organiZations. As an older greek, I don't believe that you should concern yourself with what the "youngins" say, as they can sometimes get gung ho about their organiZation and lose sight of the even bigger picture(Deltas included) about why we are here...not to fuss and argue with each other about silly topics but to handle the important issues both in our organiZations and amongst our people.
