alum status
 

OK so somehow I came across a thread in Alpha Xi Delta saying that as long as they attended the same university/college they could keep their active status. Did I read this right or am I mistaken? If this is true, are other sororities like this or are they the only one? I am a pnm member for UCF and thought this was very interesting. I will be a junior but will be there for three years since I am a double major in history and psychology. I have considered getting a masters and would make this decision a lot easier! Thanks!!!

Our guidelines are that a person "may" become an alumna if certain things happen. But it's up to the woman. Now if she graduates and comes back for more schooling, that's a different story.

i am not sure that i understand your question, but i will attempt an answer.

in all likelyhood, it would depend on which sorority you join.

in zta, if you graduate or leave school or transfer to another school(whether there is another zta chapter at the new school or not) you will be considered an alumna. zta does not allow a member to suspend her membership.if you transferred to a school with another zta chapter, you would have to leave your old chapter in good standing, fill out paperwork and request to affialiate with the chapter at your new school. they would decide whether to let you affialiate or not.

If you'll be there for three years w/ a double major, you would still be an undergrad for three years. Some groups have the option and/or require you to take alumna status after 4 years/8 semesters active, but this wouldn't apply to you - you only have 6 semesters left.

Now as far as grad school or a masters is concerned, that's a whole 'nother kettle of fish.

liltrixx, I would worry about getting a bid first before you concern yourself with all of this.

Here's my understanding for ADPi's policies on this matter. It depends on how many years in school you have already been and is not contingent on what year you joined. Meaning it doesn't matter if you joined as a Freshman, Sophmore or Junior. After your 4th year in school (commonly referred to as Senior year regardless of whether you actually have enough credits to qualify as that), you become an alum. If you wish you may apply to the Executive Board of your Chapter for 5th year active status.

If you transfer to another school that doesn't have an ADPi Chapter, you are also considered an alum. If that school has a Chapter but for whatever reason you do not wish to affiliate or the Chapter doesn't invite you to, you still retain your alum status. If you withdraw from school completely, you are also given alum status. However, if you withdraw then re-enroll after say a semester or two, you are expected to return to active status. Consideration will of course be given if you withdraw for an extended period of time because who wants to be active if they go back to school after 5+ years?
