Four fraternities join the North-American Interfraternity Conference

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (link)

"Four fraternities joined the North-American Interfraternity Conference at its 2006 Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C.. With the addition of these four fraternities, the NIC membership grew to 68 international and national men’s fraternities. Joining the NIC were Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc, Beta Chi Theta, Phi Sigma Kappa and Sigma Phi Delta. Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. will have dual membership in the NIC and NPHC. The four groups were welcomed into the NIC by NIC President James R. Estes at the opening ceremonies of the NIC Annual Meeting. In his welcome, Estes commented that these fraternities “bring a rich tradition of fraternity ideals to the conference. We are thrilled that they have joined the conference and look forward to working with them in the coming years.” “We look forward to including these organizations in our educational programming, campus visits, and community events,” said NIC Executive Vice President Jon Williamson. “As our community grows, so does our ability to reach out to all members of the fraternal community. Our work is based on ensuring a bright future for all fraternities,” Williamson added."

Beta Chi Theta

"Eight young men in the spring of 1999 attending the University of California Los Angeles, ventured to create the first South Asian Social Fraternity in California. Their inspiration of Beta Chi Theta was an embodiment of the bond of Brotherhood those eight shared with one another. Months of their diligent, dedicated, and passionate efforts laid the groundwork for Beta Chi Theta. Built upon on the primary principle of Brotherhood the tenets of fraternity include Tradition, Service to Humanity, promoting South Asian Awareness, striving for Academic Excellence, and creating a unified Nationwide Network. On June 2nd, 1999 the University of California Los Angeles recognized Beta Chi Theta as an official fraternity and granted it membership into its Inter-Fraternity Council. While the inception of the fraternity began months prior to June 2nd, 1999 that date was chosen as the official Founding Date to commemorate the establishment of Beta Chi Theta, becoming the first and only South Asian Fraternity to be a part of the Inter-Fraternity Council.

One year later, moved by the vision of Brotherhood that was exuded by Beta Chi Theta, seven young men at Baylor University in Texas sought to formalize the close bonds they had developed with one another by becoming apart of this grand fraternity. This marked another milestone in Beta Chi Theta history as the fraternity in its first expansion opportunity took a national rather than local approach. That initial foundation of Brotherhood in the west coast and south, set the path of expansion of Beta Chi Theta beyond UCLA and Baylor establishing chapters at California State Polytechnic University at Pomona (CAL POLY), University of Oklahoma at Norman (OU), University of California San Diego (UCSD), and University of Texas at Austin (UT). Colonies with the same zeal and pride for Brotherhood have started at the University of California Riverside (UCR), Vanderbilt University, and Purdue University."

Sigma Phi Delta
(Founded at University of Southern California on April 11, 1924)

"The object of the Sigma Phi Delta Fraternity shall be to promote the advancement of the Engineering Profession; to foster the advancement of Engineering Education; to instill a greater spirit of cooperation among Engineering students and organizations; to inculcate in its members the highest ideals of Virtuous manhood, good citizenship, obedience to law, and brotherhood; and to encourage excellence in scholarship."

"The founding of the Sigma Phi Delta Fraternity on the campus of the University of Southern California in Los Angeles was the outgrowth of a third attempt to establish a professional engineering fraternity on that campus. Two previous attempts had been made to organize an engineering fraternity at the University but both groups thus formed had terminated into general, or social, fraternities."

Awesome news! Beta Chi Theta seems like one of the more active frats at Baylor, so I'm glad to see them in there as well.
