Fees to National Headquarters
I'm just curious how much other greeks pay to their HQ each semester? I hear a lot of flack about the cost to HQ, and what the chapters get for it, etc., and I don't really have a comparison.
Does anyone feel their Nat'l/I-Nat'l office serves them well? Poorly? Perception in the past is HQ stepped in only when there was police work to do. I'm trying to analyze my best how other groups feel/deal with fees and services. I'll start in my next post. |
Phi Sigma Kappa
Insurance: Roughly $180 annually (last year) per man Census: $35/semester per man Other stuff: Registration for conclave, leadership school/convention - $$ Varies PSK guys - Am I forgetting anything? Insurance varies based on house, numbers, claims, grades, etc. (Some insurance company equation for liability) Thanks. |

Just as a comparision (keep in mind APO has no houses, so things like insurance, et al, doesn't enter into it).
Our fees: Pledge Fee- $20 Initation fee- $35 Annual Active Membership Dues- $15 What do we get in return? (this is actually given fully in our pledge manual) Pledge welcome card. Membership card & shingle. Graduating senior gift. National magazine sent free to all chapters (in bundles of 10, chapters say how many they need) Chapter bulletin and other mailings sent to all chapters. ALL National publications (brochures, bylaws, rituals, pledge manuals, etc) FREE to chapters (they just need to pay for postage) National leadership development workshops (chapters must get minimum attendees, but there is no cost to chapters. presenter/fraternity pickes up cost to come and present, including travel, housing, handouts, and certificates) Subsidized weekend leadership development workshops during summer (4-5 offered, cost kept low for students) Don't know about other fraternities, but we have always provided a breakdown of our national budget annually in our national magazine, making in clear were the money comes from (and how much), and were the money is going to (and how much). So its real clear in terms of what is generating the most funds and were it all goes. Also, like most GLOs, we have an endowement we work to increase. The more money we can generate from our endowement, the less we have to rely on student fees (which may not meet our goals/expectations), or have to increase those fees. hope this helps. |
It seemed like a lot at the time, and insurance was pretty high.

This information may be found on the Sigma Chi website.
Pledge Fee - $90.00 Initiation Fee - $175.00 Semester 1* - $100.00 Semester 2* - $100.00 Lifetime Membership in Sigma Chi - Priceless * Semi-annual fees (dues to IHQ) have been replaced with a Membership Fee submitted in two payments. The chapter may collect the dues however it best fits the chapter to do so. However, the full Membership Fee ($200.00) is due to IHQ *by the chapter* in Semester 2. edited for clarity |
These are the dues that go to IHQ:
Fall Dues: $55/member, $25/new member Spring Dues: $38/member, $25/new member Spring Chapter Dues: $70.00 per chapter Insurance (2006-07): $18.50 per member I'm shocked to see the difference between insurance costs for sororities vs. fraternities. I guess having dry houses really makes a huge difference and should be an incentive for the fraternities to go dry too. Although, we only started paying that separately, by the chapters, on a per member basis, in the 2004-05 school year. Also, the alumnae chapters and clubs pay the insurance fee. |
Guys always pay higher that girls!:(
Girls party at Guys Houses, so We have to pay more!;) I am sure Dues vary Org. to Org. I dont know what % Insurance is, but it is pretty big in dues. Actually only a smal % of Dues go to HQs as compared to Chapters. The HQs are using Numbers who pay dues to budget costs. All GLOs ask for donations which can be used for Educational purposes which cover a lot of areas. Scholarships, Educational Meetings (Regional and General Assemblys), ELCs who travel to instruct Chapters. But, remember the costs of running a HQ and Staff, Magazine etc. So, dont count House rent, there gets to be a gray area here. We also have parlor fees. Fees for Members who do not live in the House (If there is one), as they use it and will do wear and tear on it. Repairs, and utilities cost money that need to be paid. GLOs are a Business or there would not be Officers who plan and budget Money would there? |
