Howard opening up? Others?
 

An exec from a well-known sorority apparently made a primary
inspection of the campus at Howard this past weekend. She
lunched with some of the TKE staff and said there were several
considering entering the once-all-black schools. At the present
time I dare not reveal the identities as this was a preliminary
visit, but I will say Pike seems to be pleased with the response
in spite of the negative vibes on this site. Bears watching, ought
to be in for some exciting times and changes. TKE has no plans
to enter any more HBGLO schools at the present time, though. I
am told Lambda Chi is doing well in the Carolinas. With Sigma Chi considering Australia and feelers out from many foreign campuses (campi) who knows what is in store for us all.

On topic, I know nothing about this... so..yeah

I believe Tri-Sigma has an established chapter at Manheim Germany so it would not surprise me to see GLOs establish chapters outside US & Canada although I would think Australia is a bit expensive to service!

I may just have been seeing things, but doesn't AKA have a chapter in the UK...England if I remember?

I'd be curious to see if Greek life would take off in the UK/Europe. Lots of people "know" about it through movies and stuff, but don't see the point. It is nice to get questions when I wear my letters.

Hm, this is a very interesting observation about expansions in HBCs.

Maybe once Some Major Sorority IHQs see the time, investment and how well some of The Fraternitys are doing, they may make the same decision.

I know We decided not to expand into Mexioco and The Phillipins (SIC).

But there is room for expantion every where. They meaning Us do not need to be Pigeon hold for some beleifs of small minded people.

I believe TKE has some sort of partnership with a fraternal organization in Germany called The Corps or something.

Wow, and we already have issues with the expense of the women from our Hawaii chapter getting to our Conventions, sending visitors there, etc. And then there is the issue of currency and exchange rates with the Canadian chapters, which makes it hard for them to budget and figure out what they owe. And the slow mail system delaying mailings there. I can't imagine the complications of having chapters in even more countries. It's manageable with Canadian chapters, but it just seems overwhelming to think about all the rest of the world!

We have chapters in England, Germany, Okinawa, Tokyo and Seoul, as well as Bermuda, the Bahamas, Jamaica, St. Croix and St. Thomas.

Are these undergrad chapters or Alum?

The only international collegiate chapters are in USVI (St Croix, St Thomas); the rest are alumnae chapters.

In addition to the international chapters that Soror Ladygreek has indicated we also have an alumnae chapter in Panama as well.

This is so true, and that is a reason We have not gone to Hawaii.

We had a Colony at Un. Alaska, and it closed which was hard for me to aree with.

But again, it is a matter of Cost and Contact time available.

I know it is a ego thing that all Greeks would like to be a Major Uns with State Names or Major Independent School. But here again, there is a Major Cost.

It is figured to be @ $7,000-$8,000 minimum for a Colony Set up.

For Our ELCs, to travel to Chapters, the closer the better.

Do local alumni/alumnae chapters asist in the "colonization." In my Fraternity, this tends to be more of a District-level function, under the auspices of the IHQ.
