My mind is constantly going so here is another question...
Do you think HBGLOs reach out to Black students of different faiths? I am Muslim and it kinda bothers me that some orgs. do a lot of work with churchs but rarely reach out to other faiths. There is a lot of religious diversity within the Black community, are we missing something by not reaching out to others?

Again, I can't speak for other HBGLO's because I dont' know their requirements for membership. For Zeta, being a Christian is not a requirement for membership, so I think that we need to be supportive of all faiths. In reality though, the Sorority is composed of mostly Christian women, and as anything in where there is a majority, the marjority don't always think to take the feelings of others into consideration. Especially in religious issues, where many folks have never been exposed to any faith or even denomination other than their own. Therefore, it may be hard for them to say a prayer without invoking the name of Jesus Christ for example. However, educating our Sorors on other faiths in important if we want our Sorors of other faiths to be comfortable in the organization.

Hypothetically speaking, how do you think the idea of non-denominational prayers being used at the next Boulé would be recieved? Is this a bug we should be putting in the National Chaplain's ear?

I think this is where our Muslim, Buddhist, LDS, Transcendental Meditation, Universalist, Scientology, Hindu, Judaism, NOI and other Sorors who believe in a Higher Power but not necessarily Jesus Christ, need to make their feelings known via letter to the Exec Board. Because we don't ask about religious affiliation during the MIP, I don't think many Sorors realize how many Sorors we have in the organization who are not Christians. Additionally, those Sorors like myself who are devout Christians yet understand the need for non-denominational prayers within the Sorority, would also support this endeavor. Have ya'll figured out how to add Sorors to the listserve yet? I would like to talk about the subject in depth as well. As a Muslim Soror I would love discuss this further.

i am non-denominational and find it interesting that people feel so strongly when it comes to interacting with people of different faiths...as if something spooky is going to rub off on them if they interact...if you are strong in your faith...you have nothing to worry about when engaging in an interfaith/non-denominational prayer/service...to be an organization that assists the physical needs of so many different types of people but show reluctance in religious diversity...is counter productive...and has the potential to result in stagnation as opposed to progression...

Thanks for the correction. I figured as much, as the name in part is "Church of Jesus Christ...", but I didn't want to assume that LDS believe in Jesus Christ (or the Trinity).
