Organizations for "younger" alumnae (i.e. Junior Circles)?
 

I know that Alpha Gamma Delta (an NPC sorority) has something called "Junior Circle", which is alumnae groups for their alumnae women who are 35 and younger.

I think this is a great idea! Do any other NPC sororities have similar things? Just wondering.

(I've seen alum chapters from different NPC sororities that are designated "Day" and "Night"...i.e. those that have activities during the "day" and for those of us who work there are evening activities in the "Night" chapter).

The Hawaii Junior Circle of AGD is so awesome! One of my friends says that she feels like she's still a collegian again because they do many fun things together. Junior Circles give the new alumna an atmosphere she can be comfortable in instead of jumping into the bigger alumnae circle with women who've been out of college for 10, 20, 30 years. When I go 5th year senior next fall I'll be sad that I'm not a collegian anymore, but I'm looking forward to Junior Circle!

I'm curious if any other NPC groups have young alum groups too. We are trying to get a AGD Junior Circle together in Alabama. It has been a good thing so far. Networking is great, and there are social and philathopy projects. Let me know if anyone out there is interested in joining in. Please e-mail me directly. Alpha Phi has one in certain cities called Ivy Connection. We don't have one where I live so I don't know much about their programming.

Kappa Kappa Gamma has a group called "Night Owls" in some areas (including Boston, where I live).

We are a part of the normal Alumnae Association, but we do stuff on our own, too. It's great being with the "younger" alumnae . . . not that the older alumnae aren't wonderful, but Night Owls really helps to make the sometimes difficult transition between active and alumna.

my sorority doesn't have a junior alumnae group http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif But I wish we did. Since I graduated last June I still feel like a collegian. But I want to feel like an alumna. In San Diego we do have two different alumnae groups though. All the older alumnaes tend to join the more established chapter and the younger alumnae join the newer chapter. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/redface.gif

I keep intending to join one of the chapters. But I keep thinking of these women as advisors and not as equals. So I'm a little intimidated. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/redface.gif Does anyone have any suggestions as how to get over that feeling?

Hmm, I'm not really sure if this works for everyone, but it worked for a sister of mine who turned alum one year ago.

Even though we have a junior circle, she still felt intimidated with the older circle of alumnae. What she did was volunteered to serve as an alumna advisor for our executive council. In addition to that, she worked closely with the older alums on projects like the newsletter and fundraisers. Basically, she jumped right in there and found that they were the sweetest, dearest ladies. It took some time to feel that she was on their level and that they were all equals. The purpose isn't meant to segregate the different age groups, but it provides more organization and strength since our alumnae chapter is so large. Still, would it be possible to organize a junior circle-like organization of your own? If you feel this way I'm sure that there are some of your sisters who share the same feeling. I just had a suggestion for "younger" alum ladies....if there aren't that many younger alums interested from your own sorority...how about forming a Junior Circle "Panhellenic"? That is, you could have alum members under 35 years from anyof the 26 NPC groups. I just thought it might be a fun way to meet more people and learn about other NPC groups at the same time (particularly if that group did not have a chapter at your campus).
