Computer Programming
I'm looking to start taking some night/weekend/online courses, and I thought about looking into computer programming. I'm pretty good with computers and I've taken some basic programming courses in high school. But I'm not really sure if there's much of a job market left for programming. Have programmers become a dime a dozen??? What other kinds of night/weekend/online courses actually work well in the job market??

The market is not quite as saturated as it was 3-4 years ago. Since the dot-com bust, fewer people are going into computer science, and companies are hiring again. But you have to be very good to get at the good jobs (as in most fields).
Are you going for a degree, certification, or both? |
Software engineers is where the job market is at

You're going to have some stiff competition with the outsourced contractors. A lot of companies find it cheaper to send programming jobs to India than to hire people.
If you are going for a certification - forget about it. Everyone and their mom can get one so unless you're going for a higher degree beyond masters I dont think itd be worth your time. Like sdbeta says - Software Engineering and Analyst jobs are in higher demand because those are jobs that require on site professionals and cant necessarily be shipped overseas. |
