Summer Rush
I'm looking for ideas for fraternity rush for the summer months. This is open rush, no structured rules, initiation to be an early fall pledge class.
We're in Milwaukee, and the students come from all over the place, so there's no central "feeder" high school or schools to approach seniors. I see most of the posts here are really heavy on the sorority end of things, but maybe someone out there has ideas? Thanks -Tom |

I'm not sure if this is permitted, but would it be possible to send IFC reps out for info tables in certain schools? Or to college fairs? |
Are you looking for event or PR ideas?
I'll be up your way in June for the Bead & Button show (and to visit my parents in Brown Deer). I assume you're at UWM? Is Gamma Phi Beta still the only NPC sorority on campus? |
Why not get in touch with current members and alumni (not just of your chapter but of your entire organization because you never know who has a cousin, nephew, son, headed to UWM) and ask them for names of men who may be attending your school in the fall, or who already are students and aren't greek. Plan an event in areas with alumni and potential members and they may invite friends they know who are also going to school there or to another school with your organization so you can pass their name along to that chapter if they are suitable.
I'm not sure if you have access to a list of incoming students or if events are held around the state but that may also be a jumping off point. The men at my school do summer events and a lot of it is done through current and alum members and can be a variety of activities such as BBQs, rafting, golf, etc. |

As far as ideas go, I'm looking for anything that may work to bounce off my undergrads ass options. The chapter's never done a summer rush before. It's new territory completely. -Tom |
Vandal -
I love the alum networking ideas. That kills a couple birds with one stone. I'll push for that with the undergrads AND the alum club. I'll see if there's any college prep fairs around town too. Booths there may be an option. Thanks. -Tom |

Also - get involved in campus orientation, if nothing else, make sure PSK information is readily available and visible to the touring freshmen. (via tables or posters). |
Because UWM draws from such a large area, what are your restricitons on getting information out to future students earlier. Can you get info into the scholarship packets? Or can you sponsor events at major prospie weekends?
At Beloit (and I know the two are a bit different), we were required to have no 'wet' parties when there was a major visit weekend, so our Greek Council organized dry events like a bbq or dance during those weekends to get out letters out there. In terms of getting to the other side of the state a bit, can you do stuff w/Country Jam and all those concerts that happen right along 94 between Eau Claire and the cities? (Is that Sommerset??) It might help you draw in the people who are out that way/or from the cities...It would be a lot of expenditure for not a lot of guarentee... Not sure that I helped much but Good Luck!!! |
